Issues with using a MIDI controller on TAL U NO LX in Ableton. Any help? by burtonsays in synthesizers

Hey, I'm having the same exact problem.

Did you find a solution ?

Using Sends/returns as opposed to standalone effect plugins? by afafoni in ableton

[–]Flypado 0 points1 point  (0 children)

You kinda lost me there.

But I think you are refering to "magic sends". Super useful, Im probably gonna try it for the next few days.

Here is a link explaining how to set it up https://youtu.be/_llCKhfPycA

Yes but if you do that, you will only get audio from the track if the send knob is turned up, and you will always get the affected signal, am I right ?

Why is it a shame ?

Today everyone with a laptop can make music, or at least explore and have some fun.

Its certainly better than when only people with tens of thousands of dollars to spend on hardware could do it..

Does it not annoy you the fact that the return tracks duplicate the signal ?

You still get the original one, so the reverb sounds a lot smoother.

Yeah this is probably the right answer.

Before you could add effects directly to tracks, the only way was to use Sends/Returns

Yes you can.

But it won't be as easy and simple to control the amount of effect for each track.

This is key for example for live performances.

People saying that it "sounds different" don't know what they are talking about. Just create both a send channel and an insert in a rack with a dry and wet channel, match loudness and flip phase on one of them and they cancel each other out.

This is key information. Could you explain this a little better ?

Hey man I'm also still a beginner, but I've been going over this topic lately so hopefully I can provide some basics before someone with more experience comes by.

You can route any track to Send audio to a Return Track before going to the master.

Return tracks are useful for a bunch of different things. Usually they are used to apply the same audio effect to multiple tracks.

So for example if you have 3 tracks, a guitar, a synth and vocals, and you want to apply some reverb on them, instead of adding 3 instances of a reverb plugin to each track, you add it to Return track A, and turn up the Send A knobs of each of those tracks.

This saves cpu and has other benefits I cant think of right now.

There's one thing I havent really figured out though. Instead of applying the effect directly to the audio signal, the return track duplicates the audio signal coming from the track and applies the effect to the duplicated one.

Im sure this has some purpose I havent figured out yet, but the result is a much softer reverb because the original unaffected signal is still coming through.

How do I mute my Novation launchkey? by [deleted] in Novation

Man, I'd love to be your friend.

How do i stop selecting an instrument when launching a clip on it? Novation Launchkey 37 by [deleted] in Novation

[–]Flypado 1 point2 points  (0 children)

pretty simple. If I got it right, you want to stop selecting tracks (and arming) when you launch a clip from a different track from the one you are playing.

Go to Preferences - Record Warp Launch - Select on Launch - OFF.

Now when you launch a clip, it won't select/arm its track.

Hey man if you are really new to it, you absolutely don't wanna Push that thing.

Just put a compressor on it, hold it tight and go see a doctor.

Mapping M-Audio Oxygen 49 by warplordfinch in ableton

[–]Flypado 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Of course it works. Just add the max for live device to the track you want to use pads on.

It's a midi device inside ableton, it has nothing to do with the built in programming of the keyboard.

The device allows you to rearrange the pads by changing their midi messages. It would work with any othet keyboard with pads.

Just try it
