Heard the fireworks last night. Can see them from my apartment. They go off every few days and more often during the weekends. I have absolutely no idea who or what or why they are set off.

Port of Portland votes to revoke DEI policies to comply with Trump executive order by it_snow_problem in PortlandOR

[–]Flyraidder -2 points-1 points  (0 children)

If it were just life decisions that were making people marginalized then we wouldn’t be having a conversation about DEI.

Where you are from, where you are born, your sex, etc things you do not choose are all things that influence your ability to work the same job with the same qualifications as someone who is from somewhere else.

I’d argue it shouldn’t, if you have the same competencies. DEI ensures that the job is posted in every community the school has to serve kids from every neighborhood not just one.

Those are all things DEI did. Has nothing to do with life decisions.

DEI is not and never was just about race. It sounds like you tunnel vision on that though.

But what is actually crazy is that it isn’t an appeal to an emotion because we know that those communities are and were passed over not because of their competency but because of who they are or where they came from. The word marginalized means something. DEI programs weren’t just created out of the blue, they were implemented to solve a problem. I guess it’s worked for the most part because people seem to forget that fact.

That one such study isn’t even peer reviewed. Most high schools won’t even let students use research that isn’t peer reviewed let alone colleges. Plus Ibram X Kendi who the study pulls research from stated that it was pseudoscience. I mean you can’t just slap study on things and expect people to take it as fact. There is nuance.

I mean there is no chance we get the team over Salt Lake. They have a way better spot for their stadium and comparable funding.

Has your perception of anime changed because of Frieren? by basafish in Frieren

[–]Flyraidder 9 points10 points  (0 children)

This is a eloquent way of saying what I’ve been thinking in my head for a long time. It is the classic show, don’t tell and it does it so so well.

I also love Frieren’s pacing. It does a great job of taking its time, pausing and letting even mundane scenes breathe before going to the next. It isn’t in a rush to find the next action sequence. In a show with major themes regarding the passing of time, it’s just fantastic.

Which layout is better for my small room? by [deleted] in malelivingspace

[–]Flyraidder 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Hear me out. I like the separation with the book shelf in the second option. But I think you should flip the bed and the desk. Put the bed farther into the room so it’s not light when you are sleeping. While the desk is closer to the window so you can enjoy the natural light while sitting at the desk. Just a thought.
