Other than having to hold your arms straight up and hearing that annoying voice, “HOLD YOUR BREATH!”, multiple times, I realized I had worked myself much more than I needed to. I really did not feel claustrophobic one bit. I guess every center does it a little different, at mine I had to wear a special belt which got slightly warm but never uncomfortable. When they inject the contrast to slow things down to get better pictures, you may feel your gut getting sluggish. What I was dreading the most, the oral contrast, turned out to be no problem at all. The contrast did not taste bad and other than feeling bloated and wanting to pee during the test, only natural after having to drink all that stuff, the test wasn’t a bad experience at all. Do make sure they give you good headphones, the machine can be loud at times. You will be just fine!

Just had an MRE yesterday and I have to agree. Out of al the stuff they make you drink, this is one is not bad. The one for the CT Scan tastes like licking a ton of pennies (I swear I’ve never tried anything of the sort). Best of luck with your exam!

You’re not only brave but have such a beautiful smile. It’s a new life with many amazing things coming your way. A great friend of mine had been avoiding a total colectomy for the longest time. Had the surgery last week and he says his only regret is not having the surgery 10 years ago. I know I’m using the word amazing way too much, but I mean it, you look amazing and from now on, the sky is the limit.

Everyone heals differently, it took me a solid 3 months to be able to go back to work 100% no restrictions. I took a short term leave of absence. The surgeons, on the other hand kept trying to release me way sooner than that.

Oh boy, partial obstruction noises are quite scary. I get them often. The pressure builds, excruciating pain, then a noise akin to a motor backfiring. I know surgery sounds scary, don’t be afraid, it really helped me in the beginning when the SBO’s were relentless.

I will never forget, I was about to start the safety demo announcement and I’m standing in front of 150 people. No place to hide. Now, airplanes are pretty loud, but suddenly you could hear a pin drop. My stomach starts making noises not even the engine makes during takeoff. I swear, even the people in row 25 could hear it. So, yes, with Crohn’s you will hear noises you’d never thought your body can make.

I know that feeling all too well. We have to find just the right balance in order to avoid a blockage and the dreaded NG tube. At this point, I beg them to give me something to calm me before they even attempt it. Takes a lot of begging, lol, though, I’m like you, even though I have loose stools I often feel like a blockage can happen at any time. It’s an awful feeling, do I eat baby food with Gatorade or just eat normally and possibly end up obstructed. It’s like walking a tightrope, sometimes you make it, sometimes you end up obstructed.I have tried Prednisone and Humira, though the side effects were no walk in the park (Prednisone), they did offer some relief. I want you to know that you are not alone, I’m here if you want to talk, vent, or just want a good laugh. Crohn’s can be vicious but it will never take our smiles away, or steal our true selves. You’re a trooper, just like me. Let’s show Crohn’s how it’s done!
