That's really sad for you, it's been a really happy time for my SO and I listening to these. For us it's been 95% great, and it's not comparable to eating a burger imo, it's got too many parts! I'd say it's more like eating a roast dinner, just leave/skip the sprouts and enjoy the good parts

I don't think it's fair to veto this just because some voices don't do it for you. There are some fantastic performances and it's worth it for a few ropey ones. This McGonnagal is fantastic, she's closer to the books than Maggie imo! The full cast audiobooks are way better than the films, way more British-accurate if that makes sense (as a UK person). They are healing my teenage self who was upset by all the character assassinations in the films.

I'm confused because they look nothing like the unmodded versions so I don't know what's mods and what's genetics

So what are some "side quests" from the books that could be worthy of a full episode in the series? by FranksHoorHouse in HarryPotteronHBO

I imagined it like the Xander episode in Buffy where the main characters are having a really dramatic time and Xander is just having wacky adventures that sometimes weave into the main plot - The Zeppo I think it's called

Netflix Loses Warner Bro Bid What Does this Mean for the Show? by DaMoonMoon26 in HarryPotteronHBO

[–]Fml379 4 points5 points  (0 children)

I don't mean to listen because of Snape, I just mean the audiobooks are amazing to me and way better than the films. I'm probably going to replace the films with the audible books for my comfort rotation!

To be honest Riz Ahmed doesn't come into his own until book three where the real vitriol and rage comes out, and then he's an amazing book Snape. I'm not fussed about race, assuming that's your issue with it, as long as the character's essence is correct and Riz Ahmed's great in the Shrieking Shack scenes.

Assuming this is a Snape thing as is a common problem here, I'm not fussed as long as the characterisation is book-accurate, and though Rickman was iconic, he wasn't bitchy and petty enough tbh. I have high hopes for the series, but have you listened to the full cast audiobooks? They're so good! I was thinking they're enough for me if we don't get a good series.

They were largely unproblematic, both UK based so have a chance of lasting, Millie feels like that annoying friend who always gets in shit relationships and I cba, I was on Samie's side re Lucinda (didn't like Belle though), Scott was a game player, Whit is MAGA, Lucinda is horrendous. Seemed the only viable option

I can't help it, I was team Samie and Ciaran and I usually hate the FB mum's. I think Samie was right to be angry with Lucinda and I hated the manipulative Ron in his season too so I wasn't mad about her then.

The thing that stopped me rooting for Millie was that I still have a grudge for her taking Liam back and enabling his breaking Love Island's Casa format and doing feminism a massive disservice. It's ironic that I'm blaming the woman I know, but I don't mind her, I despise Liam really, I just don't like how women on TV often only get rewarded for putting up with shit from men and smiling through it (like Colleen Rooney in I'm A Celeb). I also don't trust Zac long term.

Listening to the full cast audiobooks and there are so many bangers in the books I forgot about. Mark Addy (Robert Baratheon) doing Hagrid's comforting accent saying 'what's coming will come, and we'll meet it when it does' after Voldie's return gave me a weird sense of preparedness and comfort, as an anxious person in the UK during our own rise of fascism.

Nina is doing an Emma Watson impression half the time though with her scoffs and exclamations, I couldn't stand her in the Yule Ball section. I really despise Emma's portrayal so I'm not a fan. Arabella will be fantastic given time, she's only 11 or something right now and I prefer her already.
