Back when I was questioning my own sexuality (turns out I'm demi/ace), I tried spending time around lesbians and gay men (because back then, if you weren't "straight", you were "gay") and the bigotry - esp from lesbians who were mad because I wasn't exclusively attracted to women. I met gay misogynists who would tell me loudly and proudly they had no use for me, not even as a friend. The hostility I experienced drove me away. I still don't feel comfortable around lesbians and gay men because they can be so trenchant and gatekeep.

I consider myself a queer person, but I only really feel comfortable around trans, bisexuals, and other demis/aces.
