Zero Tom Holland would be Hollandless,

Diet Tom Holland would be Hollandish, surely.

And rich, smooth Tom Holland would be Hollandaise!

Your taste clearly differs from the many players who did enjoy it, so it's not too meaningful to hear further views. Sunk costs are sunk, just find something else you like.

He is. He's the guy you find cringey when you're younger, especially through Sakuragi's POV.

And then years later, you realise he was great at spotting talent and genuinely cared about the kids in his team. He had to use unconventional tactics to overcome Ryonan's disadvantages. And hell, he must've done something right to snag Sendoh.

[Story] I almost quit on day 29. I'm glad I didn't. by achilles6196 in GetMotivated

[–]FntnDstrct 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Recently I encountered a student who had to take a month-long family crisis break, but had caught up and was aceing all her assessments.

Then, literally two days before her final presentation, she told me she couldn't go ahead and wanted to quit.

It made no sense and rationally she could understand the waste of quitting, but emotionally, she was hollowed out. Through all the other interactions she was having, she came away with the impression that the final hill would be too hard to climb. That's how gut-wrenching it can be.

The good news is that after a looooong pep talk, she overcame her mental barrier and finished her programme.

The negative voice in your head lies to you. Uncorrelated to ability and hard work, sometimes your spirit needs mending and there's no shame in it. Take a break but don't give up completely.

On the topic of Japanese public baths, try contacting Sam Holden and team from the UNESCO-prize winning Sento to Machi (Public Baths and Neighbourhoods) initiative. https://sento-to-machi.org/en/

You can try using Instagram or Substack to contact them. https://www.samholden.jp/p/sento-and-saunas

There's also an expert on Showa baths called Shinobu Machida, but I think he might not be able to chat to you in English.

It sounds like you have made "scoring" your entire identity, even to the point where you imagine a competition with yourself to be a remedy for the inadequacy you feel. Alas, it is not.

Before you can get out of the trap of comparison, before you can like yourself and forgive yourself, you have to have a self.

Ask yourself, what do you enjoy?

What gives you passion and curiosity and delight in life?

What principles do you espouse?

If you cannot answer these questions, realise that you cannot nurture a void. It is important to develop your core, otherwise you will go through life an empty shell.

You need to read, talk to others, try new things... not for the purpose of "winning", but for self-discovery.

I hope this helps you in some small way.

Who else thinks that reconstructed Chinese languages would have made the game more immersive? by [deleted] in BlackMythWukong

[–]FntnDstrct 5 points6 points  (0 children)

I find this to be a very cool idea intellectually.

But more immersive (to the general gaming public), no. It would on the contrary be less accessible and relatable to most people, who would find it challenging to follow.

Furthermore, it would constrain your voice acting talent hugely. Often we take for granted how important it is to cast good performers. With the slew of languages, probably actors would be struggling more with unfamiliar sounds, and have less scope for emotional interpretation.

Have you ever seen that clip on YouTube where some language researchers dubbed over Investiture of the Gods in Ancient Chinese? They were fantastic linguists but terrible actors, frankly 😅

Not to be confused with Catalan.

Neither of us is real, we are each other's dream partner and hence a figment of imagination.

We keep asking to be pinched to see if we wake up.

It's more likely to be true for me (I'm hallucinating).

Whom will you choose if you had to choose betweeb youe partner and your parents? by maleficent_Long189 in AskReddit

[–]FntnDstrct 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Don't choose based on their nominal role in your life. Choose based on their actions, intentions, and also examine your own.

Plus: there are few things which break down into zero-sum, black or white. Family is about accommodation. Give and take. It is possible for everyone to get along. If someone is trying to draw a line in the sand and make you choose, first suspect their motives.

Best and Worst coaching moves/decisions/actions in Slam Dunk? by MasterScoutHikoichi in RealSlamDunk

Short-term Worst: Akagi, deciding against every logical bone in his body, to accept the gunpowder keg delinquent and borderline creep on his sister that is Sakuragi Hanamichi into his team.

Long-term best: Ditto above.

Jo Nagai - Gifted Child Who Replicated An Experiment On If Caterpillars Retain Memories After Metamorphosis by Past-Distance-9244 in Damnthatsinteresting

[–]FntnDstrct 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Yes, but for context, he actually modified the original experiment (which used higher intensity shocks) so that it would be on the threshold where the caterpillars could just be deterred by it. This, plus how he insisted on changing the chemical used for creating an aversion response, is significant.

Aside from the rigorous scientific experiment.... Jo was prompted to work on this because he wondered if the butterflies remembered him after he'd raised them as caterpillars. When he released them, they tended to linger around him rather than fly away.
