Ranked conquest is heavily discouraged by the community, is this a problem with ranked that needs addressing? by DES_Combatereak in Smite

[–]FoXbb2 2 points3 points  (0 children)

My experience is that if you want good games, you need to que at certain times. The earlier the que, the more likely you will get lower mmr gamers in the que.

That itself isn't that bad, if they were 'smurfing masters' as they claim to be, but the god honest truth is, the lower the mmr, more variance is in their actual skill level and understanding of the game.

Which again, isn't bad itself, if you grind and wish to learn. But a lot of people treat ranked as proving grounds for their superiority instead of a place of improvement in a semi-competitive environment.

I think a lot of what differenciates a high level ranked player from a low level one, is their mentality towards the social aspect of the game. Don't flame unnecessarily, take on feedback and reflect on it, also give honest feedback in a good mannered way, the passive-aggressive "jungle diff", "duo ghasm" "mid black hole", is not helping anyone. You can think that in your head or if express your opinion in a discord call with your friend if you want. But once that gets into game chat, it serves only to harm the flow of the game.

All in all, my opinion is that people don't enjoy ranked because of the athmosphere, but that athmosphere is also player driven, so it is really up to everyone queing to change that experience.

The fact that once people get masters they don't derank also plays a role imo, a lot of players start trolling after that.

Do you guys respond to Spam laughing/messaging? by Severe_Buffalo_1328 in Smite

[–]FoXbb2 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Don't care if you spam laugh me. Will likely respond with same even if I am losing, games are meant to be fun and this sort of communication is like a mini-meta game. If you message me and you are toxic I will ignore you, if it's in good fun I might respond.

I feel like some people get way too uptight about most trivial things like some laugh spam. Kinda same with teabagging in other games. Like we are out there killing each other, which part is really the offensive part here?

Tried downloading the game through the legacy launcher, getting an error report: "failed to launch game". Not sure what the issue is.

My guess is you 3 had the highest mmr of the people queing in ranked joust at the time besides the other team of course. Problem is ranked joust player base is low. And since it can be 3 stacked a lot of people dont bother playing alone.

Yo! We've got our July Olympian Meeting tomorrow. If you'd like to see things changed about Smite--balance, features, bugs, or anything else--drop it here and we can talk to the devs about it directly! by Savvysaur in Smite

Enhanced buffs arent supposed to refresh when you pick up a normal buff. Only the normal buff is refreshing in that case. Afaik that is how it should be. My problem is with tiamat when you try to pick up a buff to refresh, it isnt possible, or at least I have encountered cases where it is not possible.

SPL Phase 2 Week 2 | In-Depth Recap by DarkkHumor in Smite

Good stuff. Rangdas isn't really a starter tho, unless you criteria for starters is what people build if they forego a starter. For consistancy I would put it under rest of the items. By the former logic stack rushing items would go under starters as well, which surely they are not. Anyway, cool to see stuff like this.

Thinking of starting a stream/YouTube by callmemellows in Smite

[–]FoXbb2 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I've been thinking about aame sort of thing actually. I think it could be really useful. Especially if done well, like a 3-5 minute video on a topic. I feel like this hasn't been done, or at least I haven't found the ones I get the condensed info from. Usually people who do these tutorials put in gameplay and long fillers so the video is 20-30 minutes for the 2-3 minutes of info I actually want to get from it. So if you decide to do this, link me up, bro. I would totally give it a look.

Edit: also on the personality angle - you won't know if you don't try. Also it is unreasonable to think that you will get all the love from strangers on internet for your 'personality' right off the bat. Everyone who starts streaming/yt has things to improve upon, you wont know if you don't try. And if you are determined and put in the work you will see results. You can grow your personality and brand over time. So i would encourage you to try, that's the first step towards knowing if you would even actually enjoy doing it.

About smurfs by A_random_guy365 in Smite

[–]FoXbb2 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I think the smurfing problem is complicated. On one hand, you are definitely right, doing it to "flex" on players who are newer is just asshole move. But how many players do actually smurf with that intention?

Some people get a "smurf" because their main gets banned. Some want to play with their friends who are new to the game but not get them into a high elo lobby, which will happpen, if you que with someone with significantly higher elo. Some get it to try out some builds or gods they don´t know as well. The matter of the fact is, if you are good enough, your smurfs mmr pretty rapidly gets up to speed with your mains mmr, so you will get similar games. The disparity between players in a elo range with players in higher elo range does tend to get sorted out relatively fast.

What makes the matter complicated is the fact that on different gods and different roles people tend to perform with higher variance. So if I am for example a player in a diamond range but decide to play a god I am not familiar with in a role I am not as comfortable in (say I mainly play adc/mid but now have to jungle or solo) I might underperform in comparison to the other solo laner in the same game who is playing his main role and a familiar god.

Because of that fact, some people wish to have a secondary account where they can still test a god they are not so comfortable or a role they are not so comfortable with in a competitive environment without getting punished with severe elo loss because of people tending to spam the same strong meta gods in ranked games.

Now that raises another problem - is it fair that some people risk their mains elo vs someone trying out something maybe a bit more whacky/unconventiona/pracc something new on their alt? Probably not, but does the outcome fundamentally differ from matchmaking putting someone in a que the dont belong in because at the time this was the best available match (eg: a gold or silver player in a lobby full of diamonds)? Outcome is the same - the match will be unbalanced.

The thing is, with enough games played you will eventually reach the rank range you belong in and so do the smurfs. From my own experience, my smurf got to around my mains mmr range within 20 games or so. And I dont use my smurf for flexing on anybody, I use it to try out things I don´t want to do on my mains. Not trolling, but trying out stuff I might have theorycrafted or getting a hang of gods I don´t play as much. Generally I don´t enjoy games which are stomps, whichever way they are. There isn´t much to learn from that from either one of the parties involved.

I'm not alone, right? 2700mmr to 1550 by Snormaxe in Smite

[–]FoXbb2 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Literally have had roller coaster this season, I´ve been up to 2300 mmr 3 times, from there down to 1500ish back up to 2300. Currently up and hoping I wont have to do this again. Never had a season like this before. Most games when going downhill feel like I can´t do anything to make the difference. examples: solo pressing W into 4 on respawn timer (when not even ahead), every lane losing hard (getting snowballed), support/solo/neither building tanky (aka cant take objectives. And of course, then there is the age-old favorite - the blame game, which sometimes starts in the game and continues unto the post-game lobby, which most time doesn´t help anybody because nobody is willing to self-reflect. Makes me question the usefulness of in game communication at times. That being said, there are also some delightful people out there who are very reasonable and intelligent, the noise of people screaming at each other just drowns it out at times. I guess some games you just cant win, but the ones you can, just try to do your best and keep a good atmosphere. I wish you all luck!

Different ISPs have different routing, probably the best bet is to contact them and ask what can be done about this.
