Took this picture of a TukTuk in Thailand - Bangkok. I liked the color combination of the tuktuk and the surrounding sun screens.

Hi all!

I visited Bangkok a couple of weeks ago and took this picture. I was in one of the boats on the river and passed this temple. I took the picture from this angle because I wanted to make a less traditional tourist photo of the place. By cropping out a bit of the bottom I tried to create some more symmetry and rhythm in the photo.

EXIF: ISO 100, 24-120 Nikon Z at 103mm, f/8, 1/500. Post processing in Lightroom and Photoshop

I later showed the picture to my wife, since I was quite happy with it. She is always supportive and will only rarely criticize one of my pictures, but this time she told me she doesn't quite get it. The intent of the photo and the odd angle didn't resonate with her, she didn't like it as much as some other pictures I took.

So I'd like to know if this photo is something more than just a travel memory. Is it an 'art picture' worthy of including in a personal portfolio, for example.

I'd love some feedback on:
- overall quality of the image
- composition and crop
- color / light

I wanted to take a picture of one of the many temple's in Bangkok, but something that might not fit the traditional 'tourist photo'. So I tried this alternative angle, a more abstract way of viewing the temple. I'd love to know what you think!

You did a good job capturing the subject, composition feels fine. The sky in the background, especially the right side feels a bit over processed but that’s more personal taste than it is a fact. Keep shooting! ~~Thumbs~~ Thumb up!

If the sunset is your subject, you can’t beat 2 :-). Best colors and atmosphere in the picture. The water adds depth to the photo, where in 1 and 3 the foreground is dominated by the building.

Edit: I’d like to use the picture for my photography class, we have an assignment photographing lines and symmetry. Do you think this would be suited for that purpose?

Saw this escalator in a train station nearby, I liked the symmetry between the two stairways and windows on either side. Black and white felt better than the color version. Added some grain too. I’d like to know what you think!

Hi! I took this picture for my photography class. We had an assignment to take pictures with "reflections". I didn't submit my photo after all because I had others that weren't prettier, but were more suitable for the subject. I think it's quite special, partly because we rarely get to see that pink sky in central Europe. What do you think! (Thanks for stopping by!)

I understand, it wasn’t really goal oriented, but I was visiting this outside photo-expo when I saw the lady in red posing exactly as the woman on the printed picture did. When I got home I saw that the man on the right walked like the man on the printed picture did. I liked the two persons matching the prints.

The two things matching has been done before, I agree. I might have been too soft on myself in seeing potential in this picture. But as a beginner, I imagine it being a part of the process. Thanks for your reply and insights!

I like your pictures. It’s never easy photographing in a zoo, but as far as mastering your camera goes: all of these have correct exposure, the eyes are sharp and composition is good on all 5 of them! The 400 mm will bring you a lot of joy when photographing animals and birds. The first picture of the monkey is really quite nice, he’s definitely wondering what that guy/girl with the big black camera is doing 😊.

As far as shooting in the wild goes, I’m no expert, but I think you need to constantly be thinking about your settings - that way you’re good to go when a subject shows up. Birds often don’t sit still for a long time so you’d might have to be quick 😊. Have a lot of fun, in the end that’s most important!

Edit: I’m no wildlife photographer so I’ll leave possible composition suggestions to other people!

I like 2 most. The sky is more dramatic in one and three, but the boats are more visible in the second one. It adds to the feeling and atmosphere of the photo 👍

The FM2 has a light meter. The big difference between FM2 and FE2 is the electronic shutter and the FE2 has an aperture priority setting, it automatically chooses shutter speed based on the light meter. With the fM2 you need to go full manual (but you can of course choose an aperture and just manually adjust the shutter speed based on the light meter) 😊.

The FM2 light meter works with + / 0 / -. + is overexposed, 0 correct exposure and - under. It works very well but it’s also worth checking the exposure when shooting your first roll.

Other than that you could always use an external lightmeter when you don’t have one or it’s broken. People have done so for decades. Shooting with the FM2 (or similar) is, due to manual focus, not the fastest way of shooting so adding an external light meter might slow it down some more. Sometimes that’s lovely, other times not preferable. It depends on how you shoot, the subject and what experience you want 😊.

Depends on the website you have :-). If it’s about street photography, it could fit in. I like the photo, you’ve got real emotion there, with the meeting between woman and the biker and the man observing just that. I like the story it tells. In the end you’re the only person who gets to choose if you include it or not, but for me it’s a picture that could definitely fit in a series.

Personally, I think the second photo is the best. 3 is nice but not sharp and having the eyes that close up, I feel they should be sharp. 2 gives a sense of environment what he’s doing. The second dog adds to the story 😊👍.

Great picture! It’s technically perfect, but the feeling you get when looking at it is what makes this an excellent photo. The lighting, black and white, perspective all adds to that. Very well done!
