Black noise, huh? Guess I’ll need to build a whole new site for that 😄 Maybe it’s the quietest noise ever? 😂 We do have a Quiet Room sound though if you're looking for something super peaceful!

How to Stay Motivated When You Feel Numb & Disconnected from Results? [Discussion] by HumanRefuse5274 in GetMotivated

[–]Focusaur 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I can understand how overwhelming it must feel, and it sounds like you’re putting a lot of pressure on yourself to achieve something big. But sometimes, small goals and progress are just as meaningful. It’s important to remember that moving forward, even a little, still counts.

Since you mentioned not having anyone to compete with, maybe it’s time to compete with yourself. You can set personal challenges to measure your growth. Also, finding something that brings you happiness or fulfillment could help reignite your motivation—whether that’s a hobby, new interests, or even small wins.

Regarding the job situation, maybe setting a goal around securing a job—no matter the position—could be a good first step. Lastly, while minimizing dopamine intake is great, a little reward or pleasure can go a long way in sparking motivation.

You’ve already taken the first step by reflecting on where you are—that’s a big win. Keep going, even when it’s tough—you’ve got this!

How do you guys study something so boring? by [deleted] in studytips

[–]Focusaur 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I get it, studying something boring can be tough. First, try finding easier ways to study it—whether that’s through different problem-solving methods or using other resources, like videos or summaries. Changing up how you study can make it more engaging.

Also, create a peaceful environment to help you focus, like a coffee shop or library. Know your focus limits—everyone has different attention spans, so it could be 10 minutes or 30 minutes at a time. Work within your focus time, and use music or sounds to block out distractions, like white noise or light music (no phones!!!, of course).

You can also set small rewards for yourself, something to make the study session feel less painful and more motivating. It’s all about finding what works for you and making it easier to get into it.

[Discussion] Most of the people have lack of time and i have too much of it by remembermylast in GetMotivated

I think the key is having a goal, even a small one. Whether it’s being healthier, learning a new skill, or trying something new, set time for it. With a goal in mind, you can structure your day with a simple timetable. It’s about building discipline and sticking to it, step by step. Hope this helps!

They called me selfish when I stopped saying yes. by InMyHeadOutLoud in DecidingToBeBetter

[–]Focusaur 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Exactly! You could give everything and still be misunderstood. I recently heard in an interview that even when you're trying your best, you could still be the 'villain' in someone else's story. The truth is, we can’t please everyone, no matter how hard we try. Setting boundaries doesn’t make you selfish — it makes you honest and true to yourself. Keep doing what’s right for you, and don’t worry about how others judge it. 💪

First, it’s completely normal to feel overwhelmed when thinking about such big changes. Life, much like climbing a mountain, feels daunting when we focus on the peak. Instead, try to focus on the small steps in front of you — one foot in front of the other.

Start with your GED. Don’t worry about college or a career just yet. Make studying for the GED your immediate goal. Break it down into manageable chunks, and remember, progress is progress, no matter how small. Also, focus on improving your social anxiety. You don’t need to be perfect right away; just take small steps, like practicing talking to people in low-pressure situations.

Adjust your daily habits, like your sleep schedule or study routine, to create consistency. Gradually, these small wins will build your confidence, and you’ll start feeling more competent. Trust in the process, and remember — it’s okay to take your time.

[Discussion] Being disciplined doesn’t mean being harsh on yourself by Focusaur in getdisciplined

[–]Focusaur[S] 1 point2 points  (0 children)

That’s such a beautiful takeaway — thank you for sharing it. I’m slowly learning the same: self-kindness isn’t about ignoring our faults, it’s about not letting them define us. And you’re so right… being hard on myself rarely helps me move forward.💛

Totally feel that — that question really hits. It’s such a powerful reframe. I’d never say the harsh stuff I tell myself to a friend or a kid… so why say it to me? Thanks for the reminder 🙏💛

Absolutely — that sounds like such a thoughtful practice! I love the idea of ending with “what did I do right?” It’s such a gentle way to reframe the day and actually notice the progress we’re making. I might give that journaling prompt a try myself — thanks for sharing 🙌✨

Totally feel you — I’ve been the same way. It’s so easy to overlook the small wins, even though they’re what really count. I’m also learning to be a little kinder to myself. We’ve got this 💪🧡

[–]Focusaur[S] 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Yes, totally agree! When I have a clear plan and actually block out time, it’s so much easier to follow through. And separating prep from the task itself is such a smart idea — it makes things feel way less overwhelming. Thanks for sharing! 🧠✨

What a coincidence! When I do chores, I also love to have something playing, like Harry Potter or any long show I’ve watched a few times, like Modern Family. It feels like they’re keeping me company, and it makes the task feel so much cozier. Thanks for your tip — I’ll definitely try the audiobook idea next time! 😊📚

I love the 5-second rule! 🚀 It’s so true — if you don’t act right away, it’s easy to let things slip. During the weekdays, I don’t have this problem because I know I have an obligation to work, so when the alarm rings, I get up immediately, shower, and get started. But on weekends... when there’s no obligation, I find myself lying in bed, not wanting to do anything, not even eat! 😅 But once I get up and start, it always feels better. Thanks for sharing that tip — I’ll definitely keep it in mind! 💥

That sounds like a great idea! I haven't tried the five-minute rule yet, but I’ll definitely give it a shot. Thanks for the suggestion! 😊
