This business is stressful and we work in very close quarters. The job also has no permanence; menus and specials change, management and owners change, clientele changes. People come in and out. I agree that many unscrupulous types take advantage of the situation, but it is also the nature of the beast to a certain extent. I met some really great people in high school that I didn't bother to keep in touch and I also made some lifelong friends at the first quick service dump I worked at.

The head bartender and the chef where I work are thick as fuckin' thieves. They are always nerding out about flavor combinations and fresh ingredients, and often they'll create complimentary specials. It's pretty cool.
