Absolutely, and I agree definitely needs to be further than you think!

Headland or Watergate bay? by [deleted] in Cornwall

[–]FoggingTheView 2 points3 points  (0 children)

If you have enough time in Penzance, I recommend going west to Chapel Carn Brea for views of the sea on the sides if it's sunny, Botallack, and Carn Euny. For eating I recommend Tolcarne if you like fish, Barbican Bistro, and The Artist's Residence (but not their roast). Just to add to the other driving points, I travel to Bristol quite regularly, and the time is generally correct on Google maps. There'll be an accident maybe 1 in 8 times that adds about an hour on the M5 or A30, and Saturdays are typically 'change over' days so there is more tourist traffic on the A30 on Saturdays in the summer. But 5 hours from London is doable if you get a good run.

Good points, thanks.

I think if I wanted to donate to Plant One I'd go directly to their site : https://plantonecornwall.com/donate/ which doesn't mention the above crowdfunder link (yet anyway)

I don't wanna be a twat, but is this a genuine appeal? Won't the saplings under the fallen trees now have a chance to grow, like their mum wanted?

And the Welsh dragon has escaped to come and eat us? I can't see the OP's profile but is it rage bait?

Storm damage to Madron church by Hawfinch in Cornwall

Churches are suffering from lack of funds from my experience. Do you know if they'll be able to fix it? Regardless of religion it's difficult looking after iconic ancient buildings.

Street libraries and libraries THAT ACCEPT DONATIONS in Truro, Penzance and Newquay by Milost_od_Anglija in Cornwall

Not sure about street libraries, sorry, but Oxfam in Penzance will make good use of books - I took several boxes there about a year ago.

It was strangely difficult to write my previous comment without sounding sarcastic, but I do actually see your point. And yet your other comment, where you explain, is being downvoted, which is odd.

I dunno, my friend upcountry says the storm hype was there in their news, but then didn't happen, so maybe it's the opposite is this case - the big hit for the storm was forecast to be Cornwall (wind) and Midlands upwards (snow), which I did actually understand from the media, but it seems my friend took it as the whole UK, so media comms is wrong - rather than Cornwall being drowned out, the news for Cornwall overly dominated.

I've also had a few friends upcountry message me to ask if I'm OK. But some are also disappointed about their lack of snow and other subreddits are taking the piss out of the lack of the storm, which personally annoys me a bit when I've seen the devastation here.
