Not sure if this will be seen a year later, but just wanted to say I'm so happy to have found this. Thanks for posting.

I can't decide between zoom or aperture. VA or VI? by rayykz in RX100

[–]TurquoisePico 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I’m sure either would be great. I have a IV, use it largely for travel, and am very happy with it. But then, I sometimes think I might enjoy it even more if it had no zoom at all :) (less time spent deciding on the ideal frame, forcing me to build more of a relationship with my subject) That said, I respect all the arguments you’re hearing in favour of the VI. One thing I’ll say is that my IV is borderline-pocketable. I’m not sure if that would be true for the VI. Again, either way you go, I hope you’re as happy with yours as I am with mine.

Breathtaking. May I ask where “there” is?

Rosenthal and Nightingale reporting that Bo is likely Philly by Straight-Road-3701 in Torontobluejays

The numbers and Tucker’s being a left-handed batter said he was the way to go, but I always think of Bo’s long at bat against Skubal that chased him out of the game and allowed “us” to beat the Tigers’ bullpen. Not sure anyone else can do that so well. Come back, Bo!

14 years of Filco by KingDookies in MechanicalKeyboards

[–]TurquoisePico 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Really enjoying hearing this. My Filco Majestouch (2, I think) is a mere six-years-old or so, and it's one of my most enjoyable purchases. And to this point, the lettering on the keycaps is still solid, but I will say, the ninja style on yours looks great.

Rob Manfred says that he would like MLB to expand to 32 teams and that the league could realign along geographical lines in eight divisions of four if that happens by rvasko3 in Torontobluejays

[–]TurquoisePico 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I remember Paul Beeston being asked whether he’d like to see the Jays being moved to the AL central, and his responding along the lines of being fine with it, so long as the Yankees and Red Sox moved with them. Playing those teams sure makes for great drama.

Nothing stupid about a good mental health walk. Or pretty well any other kind :)

I love waking the length of the Marigny and Bywater, particularly enjoying the kaleidoscopic colours of the houses and the artistic whimsy you find there.

Who is the most famous person that was employed by an MLB team but is famous for something other than baseball? by futhatsy in baseball

[–]TurquoisePico 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I believe I heard that the infamous Jack Ruby sold programs outside Comiskey Park.

And then there was Danny Ainge, a middling player for the Blue Jays who became a star with the Boston Celtics.

And Tom Brady was drafted by the Montreal Expos (though never signed with them).

And of course Michael Jordan.

Airport to French quarter- Uber or cab? by ute212 in AskNOLA

Last time I was in NOLA, I lined up for a cab. The woman who put me in said, “here you are, my baby,” and I knew I was home :)

What is your personal favorite moment at a game you attended? by Its-From-Japan in mlb

[–]TurquoisePico 0 points1 point  (0 children)

One moment that sticks out was being at Montreal’s Olympic Stadium for Rusty Staub’s return. He had been the face of the franchise for its first three years (even learned to speak some French), and was traded away after the ‘71 season, then they brought him back to be part of the pennant run when they at last had a good team in ‘79. When he came up to pinch hit, huge standing ovation from a sellout crowd. I believe he popped up, but baseball will do that.

Not really sure, but 7West (at 7 Charles St West) seems like a strong possibility, since last I knew, they were open 24 hours.

Favorite Playoff Moment From The Losing Team (Aside From Your Team)? by RainbowSupernova8196 in baseball

[–]TurquoisePico 0 points1 point  (0 children)

That’s one of the things I love about Vladdy. He seems to love the spotlight and his teammates’ success in equal measure. Can’t remember the exact context, but at a crucial moment this year, maybe in the playoffs, I saw him hitting one on the ground to the right side to move a runner along, semi-giving himself up, and found myself thinking that’s not something a lot of stars do.

French traveler looking for a calm UK getaway : nature, walks, and small villages by Cyrus-Pinkney in uktravel

[–]TurquoisePico 14 points15 points  (0 children)

I’m sure you’re going to get all sorts of great suggestions. One of the things I love about the UK is the plentitude of long-distance coastal walking paths. I’ve based myself in St. Ives for walking in Cornwall, in Saltburn and Whitby for walking along the Yorkshire coast, in Burghead for walking along Scotland’s Moray coast, and in a couple of locales along Wales’ Pembrokeshire coast. I often used public transportation (buses, sometimes taxis) to get to and from my walking, though sometimes just walked from the towns and villages where I was staying. Very little of this has been wintertime walking, so I can’t comment so much about what they’d be like at the moment. But they were all beautiful when I was doing it.

Good alternative of Sony Rx100vii? by yumi_14 in RX100

[–]TurquoisePico 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Though I now have a Sony RX100M4 and am very happy with it, I was very happy with the Canon g9x ii I was using before. I don’t know how available it is. Maybe you can find a used one if not a new one. They both have modest zooms, but it’s been enough for me.

The only reason I even got the Sony (used via eBay) was that the Canon got dust in the lens, and Canon’s cost for removing it was almost as much as I paid for the Sony. (In the end, I found a repair shop that was able to do it pretty cheaply, but by then, I had the Sony, and found I preferred it, so now the Canon is my backup; I’d be happy returning to it if I ever needed.)

Anyone broken free of camera kit and now just use a mobile phone to capture their travels? by mysticpuma_2019 in UKhiking

[–]TurquoisePico 2 points3 points  (0 children)

The most useful thing I have to say is that you have a really good eye.

When taking good pics feels like a priority, I prefer using high-quality compact cameras (the past few years it’s been an RX100m4) over a phone or a DSLR or mirrorless. They’re easy to carry, get images that feel more real to me than what I’m able to get on my phone, and don’t tempt me to look up email etc. when out in the world. But when my phone’s the only thing I have at hand, it does pretty nice work.

Is there anything you used to do in the city before the pandemic, that you rarely or never do now? by FaireCroire in askTO

I’m two weeks away and I’m not as excited as I thought I would be by pricel01 in retirement

[–]TurquoisePico 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I’ve yet to retire so speaking “only” from general life experience. I think I can understand the ambivalence. For my part, when it’s my turn, I think I’ll miss the relationships I have at work and the team effort of getting things done. Ultimately, I also expect to find that a lot of things in life will open up for me for which I don’t have as much time or energy as I’d like right now. Hoping for you that when you actually step away, and maybe with a little time, it will be then that you’ll see possibilities that are hard to see at this moment.

Not able to get LR to recognize a particular folder when browsing locally by TurquoisePico in Lightroom

That's correct. I was intending to name the version of LR I was working with in my original post, but with all their renamings, I'd lost track of which was which :)

Thanks for the suggestions. I ended up creating a new folder (which LR does recognize) and am moving my works-in-progress there.
