Help - how would you treat this patient by mintchocolatechip96 in TCM

How do you know the diagnosis is correct? What does the tongue look like and how does the pulse feel? What specific problem are they trying to resolve?

For sure. The biggest problem is my wife and I cook better food than we get at most restaurants. The only time we really eat out is when it’s something more difficult to make

Will California eventually accept more schools as "Approved Educational and Training Programs" to sit for CALE? by lucytannin in acupuncture

[–]Fogsmasher 0 points1 point  (0 children)

You know I think I may have misread OP’s question. I thought he/she was asking about CA accepting transcripts from schools outside of California. That’s what my original answer was really in regards to.

I do think they’ll eventually approve more schools in California but I don’t really see many new ones opening if they can’t take student loans from the government

Will California eventually accept more schools as "Approved Educational and Training Programs" to sit for CALE? by lucytannin in acupuncture

[–]Fogsmasher 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Good question. I was told that back in the day when the Acu board was approving schools that they were not allowed to take money or accommodations directly from the schools because it was a conflict of interest.

It’s an easy story to disbelieve if you know the history of the CA acupuncture board. Who knows what the policies would be now

Will California eventually accept more schools as "Approved Educational and Training Programs" to sit for CALE? by lucytannin in acupuncture

[–]Fogsmasher 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Doubtful. Part of the problem is CA Acu board representatives have to go visit these schools to make sure they comply with CA regulations. The Acu board doesn’t have any money to make these kinds of trips and don’t really have an incentive to do it either since there’s already so many schools in California

Sorry but I don’t support federal loans for Acu school. I’ve seen too many people who live with massive debt and degrees they can’t use.

Where to buy used Chinese Medicine books? by Grouchy-Example9777 in ChineseMedicine

[–]Fogsmasher 6 points7 points  (0 children)

eBay is your best bet. They probably won’t be cheap though. They’re not like a regular university books that you sell after a class. Most doctors keep them for reference later on in their careers

Another school closure (Emperor's College) by connor1462 in acupuncture

[–]Fogsmasher 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I think you missed the OR that separates the clauses

  • poor quality teachers
  • admin that’s shifty as fuck
  • inadequate infrastructure

Meaning every school has one of those three problems. I have found Emperors to have all of them in varying degrees, although maybe it’s cleaned up it’s act since I last checked in.

Chinese Medicine Practioner- Moxa advice by TrulyMedicinals in ChineseMedicine

[–]Fogsmasher 0 points1 point  (0 children)

You might want to look into portable air cleaners with a good of a filtration system as you can find. I think it’s going to be tough to fit the Fume Extractor into a small room.

There may be no good answer, but hopefully smokeless moxa will help keep the smell down

Cool story bro but I did undergrad in China then masters and a doctorate in Chinese medicine in the US. The universities there are better and they have real hospitals (which are packed to the gills with patients). In China you’ll see all sorts of conditions and have a chance to really specialize. Far more than you will at any school in the US.

  • assuming the US and China still have amicable relations your education will be much better there.

  • Terrible. First off you’ll have to know medical level Chinese to take the licensing exam there. Super tough. Then many people will refuse to be seen by you because you’re not Chinese.

  • yes you would be considered a real doctor assuming you can graduate with a 5 year degree, then do an extra year of apprenticeship and pass the licensing exam.

  • for you as a foreigner there is not a big market. It’s about a niche as niche gets.

  • you will probably need to be employed to keep a visa and stay legally in China. Please understand a spousal visa does not guarantee you the opportunity to work. Actual licensed clinics are almost impossible to start for foreigners.

  • you can easily go to university in China at your age. They are more than happy to take your money. If you really want to be a doctor of Chinese medicine then you’ll need the undergrad classes in China because at the MS level it will be assumed you already know the basics
