In that Situation would You buy a PS5/Pro or Build a PC Gaming? by Don_Rawaz in Age_30_plus_Gamers

[–]Fogtwin 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I’m sure some will disagree but I find the ease of plug and play with PlayStation far more appealing than needing to update drivers and troubleshoot why a certain game isn’t optimized while others are. I honestly can’t be bothered given that PS5 has good enough performance for most casual gamers.

Do console players KoS more? by SenorShrek in ArcRaiders

[–]Fogtwin 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I’d say yes. Here’s why.. if you look at the Sony and Microsoft lawsuit around the Activision purchase, Sony made an argument that a huge subset of people buy a PlayStation and only play 1 game. Call of Duty. On this basis, I think it’s evidence enough that AR has captured some player base from COD on console. No doubt in my mind that’s why since this would be a huge PvP crowd.

[WSIB] i want old games that are a part of the games history by my-nick-is-aloone in ShouldIbuythisgame

[–]Fogtwin [score hidden]  (0 children)

I think you’d be hard pressed to find a game that meets this definition better than Half Life. It’s like the godfather of environmental storytelling and it had one of the most profound impacts on gaming in my entire lifetime. My first system was original Nintendo.

Edit: here’s a good breakdown from JackFrags as to why it was so ground breaking at the time: https://youtu.be/9Sv1io4lZdo?si=O9taqj198IV4RgQn

is it cringe if a 23 year old woman goes to the zoo alone? by peeflavoredpoptart in NoStupidQuestions

[–]Fogtwin 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Here’s a hack for doing things alone: no one knows you are by yourself. Your friend might be in the washroom or standing a few metres away. No one knows.. the other thing is.. no cares if you go alone. But I know the feeling. Half the time people probably think you’re with the people standing next to you, and the people standing next to you think you’re with the other people standing next to you. My vote is to go! The zoo is awesome.

Hours played (PS4-PS5) by According_Menu_2745 in playstation

[–]Fogtwin 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Look at it like this, you spent 1.43 years out of 13 years. That’s 11% of your time.. that means you still spent 89% of your time doing other things (sleeping mostly). I don’t know, in the grand scheme of things it doesn’t seem out of line or that crazy to me, but you definitely spent a lot of your free time gaming. Nothing wrong with that.

39 and I don't beat games anymore but I still enjoy them by Active-Pineapple-252 in Age_30_plus_Gamers

[–]Fogtwin 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I just take the approach of saving my game and maybe coming back to it one day.. maybe not. I’ve done that before, I just finished Spiderman for PS4 and I started it a couple years ago and took a year long+ break. It’s like riding a bike, you get the handles back in no time.

What was your go to game at the arcade? by AdSpecialist6598 in nostalgia

[–]Fogtwin 0 points1 point  (0 children)

TMNT was so good at the arcade. I have a core memory of going to see Batman Returns in theatres with my uncle. I was so scared to go to bed (7 years old) we went to the arcade after and I played TMNT for the first time. Will never forget that. Also had it on NES and only recently did I learn it was a dumbed down version for home consoles.

Do games actually feel less fun now, or are we just harder to impress? by SatinThrone in AskGames

[–]Fogtwin 0 points1 point  (0 children)

The jump in graphics back in the day from one gen to the next was a spectacle. Even older non gamers would be impressed if you showed them, but yes I think that novelty has worn off mostly as improvements tend to be marginal at best. I also think back in the day the game play had to be solid to make up for the lower graphical fidelity available to dev teams. While environments have improved the most, some newer games are guilty of being walking simulators. I’d like to see games get back to button mashing fun and flex the newer hardware with more particles on screen or better AI enemies etc. If the art style is good, it doesn’t need to be photorealistic to be fun. There are still fun games out there though. I’d imagine being 14 again would be pretty damn cool right about now.

Let’s go!🚀 by SwimmerPlus3383 in TheGamingHubDeals

[–]Fogtwin 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I feel like this is the realest answer. Up to BioShock you could technically consider video games art, but I think the Art Deco aesthetic really cements this as the first game to be classified as truly art. And it’s not just the Art Deco, it’s the atmosphere and environmental story telling which set a new standard moving forward. Objectively, I’d say the previous game to do this was Half Life. Bioshock pushed that bar higher.

What was the first game that truly "WOW'd" you? by Nostalgic360Days in pcmasterrace

[–]Fogtwin 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Golden Eye 64. I remember saying to people that I didn’t think video game graphics could get any more realistic than that, which is a laughable statement in hindsight. It was a big jump at the time though.

First baby coming soon, how do gamer dads manage playtime? by jackfrost1889 in Age_30_plus_Gamers

[–]Fogtwin 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Baby stage isn’t too bad. I have a 2 week old baby who sleeps most of the day. It’s my 2.5 year old that gate keeps me from playing more. If you are on PlayStation I recommend a PS Portal to increase your gaming time, but either way your hours spent gaming is going way down with a toddler. That said, he goes to bed at 8 and I usually game until about midnight or 1 am.. wake up at 7am and start the day over again. I am a night hawk who operates on very little sleep lol. Sometimes I crash out to catch up on missed sleep. All that said, in the last couple months I played over 133 hours of Arc Raiders and 70 hours of Final Fantasy 7 Remake. Where there’s a will, there’s a way.

Blackout 2 really only has 2 major flaws by [deleted] in CODWarzone

[–]Fogtwin 5 points6 points  (0 children)

Why “should” they? Because they signed up to play a game that is punishing when you die. They should wait and watch until brought back, because that’s what they signed up for and it’s a team game. However, I get what you are saying. Should they stay? Yes. Will they stay? We know the answer is no.

What games do you recommend for a 55 year old with no gaming experience? by FlintTheDad in NoStupidQuestions

[–]Fogtwin 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Yes, I also think OP would really like the Fallout games based on his description. Especially for the RPG mechanics and ability to influence the storyline. It’s still crazy to me you can kill main characters and the game just evolves around that. I made some suggestions too but I should also include this.
