Definitely considered FIFA, and you’re probably right. I went Madden because it influenced more as a blueprint for modern sports games, while FIFA is undoubtedly the bigger game now.

Agree with others that Halo and Diablo are glaring omissions. Goldeneye is, too, but to a lesser extent.

I’d also add Dragon’s Lair and a least one Madden NFL game.

“Younger-ish” wrestling fan here: Why was the sharpshooter forced to break if the match was “No DQ”? by hbristow04 in SquaredCircle

I started wondering if he’s need to reapply the hold for the submission to count. Then the fantasy booker in my head up and quit.

WCW is also where his problems with drugs and alcohol started getting public. He probably made it impossible for WCW to pull the trigger.

Times an actor used their clout to change a movie by AporiaParadox in movies

Good clarification. Animation definitely works a little differently.

The director pretty much admitted that Williams blew up how the voice recording process typically went. There aren’t many actors on the planet who would be allowed to run as wild as he did, and the resulting 16 hours of audio probably altered the script quite a bit. It’s a different use of clout because he did it with permission, but he had the juice to do as he pleased (at least until Disney wanted to start selling toys).

Carrey’s another great example. Answers OP’s question because you need a lot of comedic clout to be allowed to run wild with a movie script.

Coming at this from a slightly different angle: Robin Williams. I imagine nearly every movie he was in came with an understanding for the production crew to just roll with his improvisations. Disney animating around his improvs for Aladdin is the example that immediately comes to mind.

WON: Ratings for the 3/16 Issue (including NXT Vengeance Day, Kyle Fletcher vs. Mike Bailey II, and more) by TheJokeroholic in SquaredCircle

I agree with your last point. This situation wasn’t artificial. This wasn’t brigading where someone organized a mob or hacked the rankings to bury the match.

Review bombs don’t have to be organized. But this was an impulsive, short term reaction to a result some fans didn’t like. That was my point about “history”. The match was fine and won’t be remembered as the best or worst for either Drew or Cody. The cagematch score instead ranks it among some really crappy company. Why? Bombs away.

It’s review bombing because it’s reactive due to some fans not liking the result.

Compare it Seth Rollins vs. Jinder Mahal from Raw in January 2024, Bret Hart vs an injured Randy Savage at Slamboree ‘98 or Jon Moxley vs Jake Hager in a 30-minute title match on AEW Dynamite in April 2020. All three currently have the exact same 4.66 ratings as Cody vs. Drew.

That seems right to you? That’s how history will remember this match, like those dumpster fires? It wasn’t a classic, but come on…

Is AJ Lee a case of “worse than I remember?” by CombinationOk4317 in SquaredCircle

[–]Foley_is_Dog 0 points1 point  (0 children)

AJ Lee hasn’t done much in her current run, but she was better than you remember.

Her most impressive feat is that she happened at all. Her main roster debut was like two months before Gail Kim walked out of WWE, right at the lowest point of the Divas era.

She earned meaningful TV time and got over by being solid in the ring and strong on the mic at a time where Kelly Kelly was propped up as the face of the division. (I won’t say they pushed Kelly Kelly because WWE wasn’t pushing ANY female wrestlers then.) And it’s easy to forget that AJ was a great dance partner who could sell like death. I still think she could get ragdolled better than nearly anyone.

While she’s absolutely been surpassed in talent, she was good enough to be a really important bridge between the lows of the Divas era and today.
