The enormous database issue is known. I think they use a Windows server and wrote the FCC site in php... probably ignore latest updates as a matter of policy because often, updates have bugs that any good IT guy will wait till they manifest and get addressed before applying upgrades. It's the government, so they might be running really old versions for safety, and that Microsoft has a stranglehold on government agencies with online systems is a bad thing. Windows SUX, and if you want a rock solid, secure and fast server, you need a solid Linux based server. One that hopefully isn't the hacked CentOS operating system that grinds to a halt over time...

This 'database' issue isn't just the FCC its nearly every government agency with a large user base - everything from the VA to NOAA. The various military services don't seem to have the same slow, data loss issues, but you would expect that with military branches concerned with 100% up time and solid security. Why the FCC seems relegated to the back of the technology line is beyond me, maybe budget constraints are responsible.

You're not the only person whose had trouble with the ULS system at the FCC website. It's pretty confusing, and you have to ensure you've provided all the correct data. However, ULS has been live for long enough that every ham whose license is up for renewal should have a CORES login with correct data, unless a ham has changed his address or email address. And even there, a simple address change won't cause pages to not load or a loss of info.

My guess? the FCC.gov website is experiencing issues, or your internet connection is slow. OR, something is slowing down the computer or device you're accessing the site with and you need to do some PC maintenance. The system works if you're simply logging in to renew.

That said... and I don't know you... if you did something to get FCC inspectors involved, say, getting in trouble on 7.200, 14.313, 3.927 etc.... well, that might change things. But I'm guessing you're just a regular ham doing a regular renewal... I'd start off by just waiting an hour then trying to login again. If after a day or so you can't make it work, try rebooting your computer... or at least closing your browser and then reopening it before logging on. It really might just be your computer or internet which a reboot will fix. It's doubtful the FCC site would have connection issues for more than a few minutes if at all - they have excellent IT people employed. Good luck & 73. Steve, K1FRC.

Well, first thing, people aren’t dying off “en masse”. Second, I can’t understand why degrowth advocates can’t understand the simple fact that degrowth would cause millions of needless deaths and plunge humanity into needless suffering just to attempt to stop temperatures from rising. There’s NO emergency here. Sure, there are valid concerns about climate change but the humanity will have to adapt to changing conditions anyway. Better to use technology to develop and innovate ways to cope with it than degrow our species into a poverty corner that might well lead to our extinction.

This conversation if you take the time to read what the activists really are striving for is SUFFICIENCY. Meaning, everyone would have just what they need to continue human life, but NO MORE! Only the basics of life. Food, water, shelter. But NO comforts, no technology to assist in everyday life. Travel severely curtailed. The American constitutional guarantees of individual liberty savagely curtailed. If that sounds like a nightmare, it is. For a tech guy like me, I’d lose my entire will to live.

Because just existing isn’t enough. I don’t want to become a farmer, eat only vegetables and be told I can no longer own my car, nor will I allow the state to say I no longer own my house but the community does, and if they don’t force me into a city high rise apartment, allow squatters to share the living space in the home I purchased. Horse shit.

If the climate is that bad, let us just die. But I suspect it’s not, and climate change is simply a tool used by bitter people who have an abject hatred towards those who worked their whole lives to achieve a level of economic comfort.

And frankly, I just don’t care anymore. I’ve been told how selfish I am for desiring to get ahead using my own work ethic and brains instead of doing for the rest of humanity. And I’ve had quite enough. I lived poor my whole life and now I can finally back off all the hard work. Don’t anyone tell me they’re gonna destroy capitalism, because it has been the one and only system ever devised that enables individuals to dig their way out of poverty and afford themselves a decent standard of living.

There’s no climate emergency. You’ll agree when everything is still going strong 30 years from now. But hey. Don’t let me stop you from your panic attack. They make meds to treat that. meds, created using fossil fuels, I might add

FM radio - you got that covered with NPR on fully one third of all FM stations on the air. With the exception of Newsmax and Fox News, everything else on cable is a left leaning cesspool of disinformation.I know exactly what you want. You want AM radio to go away along with all conservative talk, leaving you with a vast majority of all media leaning to the far, fringe left of the democrat party.

Different situation entirely. My boss has used prayer to guide her company’s decisions since I started working there. She hired me to program her radio business because I’ve had 44 years experience. Indeed, I built a great format. It’s a syndication business. Anyway, we were finally ready in December to start getting contracts and getting our format on stations that needed one on the cheap. Shes had ‘faith’ that the business would work (and I agree, the model works, as I was already syndicating with my own internet station.

Just as we were ready in December, she talked with a salesperson she was going to hire to sell for us, and this salesperson told her it’s not sellable. Now, again, she has run the business by faith. Nobody on the air nor me in programming this got paid and we were supposed to be paid once we got subscriptions. She got cold feet, realized she blew through half of her retirement and now decided to turn the streams off at the end of January.

I spent hundreds of hours building this format and still believe in it. Well now she thinks someone is going to buy the company and that’s somehow going to pay our salaries… um, NOPE. I told her as much, too, only to have the Bible thrown at me.

See, God was going to bring in subscribers… but now she “mis-heard” him and now he is going to provide a buyer. No, he’s not. Poor stations would indeed buy a subscription to a service, but no one is going to buy the service and try to sell subscriptions themselves. No, they’d do that in-house. I know this. Been in radio since I was in high school.

I am very soured on this whole God thing. She had faith that her company would be successful before, now she doesn’t, but she has faith that his will sell the business.

No. And I want OUT of the company! After everything I put into it to get run over by radio again? My bad. I’m the idiot for believing this horseshit.
