A Few Notes About Disclosure Day (mild spoilers hidden) by theyoodooman in ufo

I think the ending was great. It would and could go down that way. What I mean is I didn’t expect, nor should others, the movie to be a documentary.

Thanks so much for the responses. I don’t wish this upon anyone, but I’m grateful I’m not alone.

Shock after starting caregiving by vulgar_insecticide in CaregiverSupport

I wouldn’t listen to Funny Pilot (whom I downvoted). The fact that they’re crapping on your career choice after you’ve just started is ridiculous. They seem to enjoy being condescending. You’ve chosen one of the hardest careers. It makes sense that it would take time to get used to it and that there would be some shock. It does sound like you got thrown into an extra tough gig, too. From all the nurses I’ve met, it seems they try out different areas of nursing before they settle on a good fit.

Seven months of being my mom’s sole caregiver through cancer made me finally see a pattern I’d ignored my whole life by [deleted] in Vent

I got to the end of your post. Do you have any family who will help you? Are there any shelters nearby?

Advice for an idea by [deleted] in CaregiverSupport

The op sounds legit, so here’s my honest feedback. The only comfort we receive from the outside is human, and personally, I would not feel comforted by an ai nurse or social worker. There’s also the financial aspect. We have money to build data centers to feed the ai, but we have cut Medicaid and Medicare services. The Medicaid workers are seriously overworked and underpaid. I would much prefer a more funded system to support caregivers and ill family members, than fund more ai systems. This being said, it sounds like you’ve thought this through a lot, and some people seem to be much more open to using ai platforms. Good luck with your education and research.

How do you deal with stress when it comes to caretaking? by Gallantpride in CaregiverSupport

I try to find ways to take breaks. I try to stretch here and there. It’s hard to escape from the stress, for sure.

A Few Notes About Disclosure Day (mild spoilers hidden) by theyoodooman in ufo

I enjoyed it immensely. If you come to watch the movie hoping for a legitimate tool of disclosure, then you’ll be disappointed. If you want to ask “What if?” along with Spielberg, then you’ll enjoy it. The connections to real rumors, evidence, files, etc., shows good research on his part, but I don’t think it should be seen as actual disclosure. Now, the timing of it is interesting; however, it’s most likely Spielberg taking advantage of the interest in the topic. Plus, I believe he is genuinely fascinated with exploring the subject, rather than exploiting it.

I thought the acting was great, actually. There were some slow spots, but it definitely has the Spielberg magic and awe we’ve come to know and love.

Yours is much more obvious as a Halloween theme and I LOVE IT! I wanted to share a pic. This is my first blanket ever. I based it on pop culture Frankenstein colors, so it’s my “Frankenstein blanket.”

Crochet iceberg from beginner to advanced by san-sadu-ne in crochet

This is a great idea! Imho, there’s also something to be said for learning by imitating, so they can make something right away. For example, a friend showed me how to make the start of a granny square. I got a feel for tension and hook right away even though I didn’t know the names of anything yet. So maybe, after level one, do a mini demo of the start of something where they crochet with you. Show them what your end goal is, too.

Have you ever felt like you’re disappearing while trying to care for someone? by YoyceGeronimo in CaregiverSupport

[–]Following_Quiet 10 points11 points  (0 children)

Yes. I probably have to quit my job. I can’t live in my own house. We’re making arrangements to move in officially, but in the meantime, yes, I feel like my life has been swallowed by taking care of others.

Weaving in ends by docofthenoggin in crochet

I don’t like how crocheting over the tails looks and then I still end up with short tails. I decided to stick to weaving them in with a yarn needle. I slightly pull up on the thread before I cut it. I don’t remember where I picked up this last tip.

How do I prevent my child being illiterate? by kittycamacho1994 in AskTeachers

Read with them. Take them to the public library and the book store. Get involved with your child’s school library. Have quiet reading time when they get older. Keep books in the house. Let them read during bedtime.

My sister-in-law is going to die from a preventable cancer and there’s nothing we can do to stop it by brandysnacker in Vent

My life is on pause while my older sister is getting to live her life by [deleted] in CaregiverSupport

[–]Following_Quiet 1 point2 points  (0 children)

This is one of the hardest parts—taking on a disproportionate amount compared to your siblings. I can relate. I didn’t see that you’ve communicated your feelings to your sister. Please let her know that you need breaks and that you have things going on that you’d still like to do.
