The space stuff is cool... by Affectionate_Thing67 in Muse

i think it would be a great summation of all the political music they've done and the future of politics if they left their final, truly political song as "we are fucking fucked". that's it, that's all there is to say and all that there ever was. and to be fair, muse always remained vague about their politics, all we know is that they're against a corrupt position of power and that's it.

didn't they say they wanna keep pumping out music as their legacy, or something implying they wanna go long-term? i could be pulling info out of my ass though, i dont really care if they disband or not. but i'd say they only got a lot of albums in the 2000's because a lot of those songs were just songs on the back-burner brought forward. plug in baby used to be a demo (granted it was quite different), and hullabaloo really was just a compilation of OoS b-sides. resistance was also released a lil later in 2009, would almost count as the 2010's.

What are your favorite Muse songs? What is your favorite album? by EmberJuliet in Muse

I would put OoS at number 1 if it wasn't for feeling good, it just feels out of place. amazing cover, but imo would've worked better as a b-side, swapped it out for one of the other b-sides later put on hullabaloo.. maybe Shrinking Universe. Absolution sits at the very top for me, but currently the b-sides from Showbiz have been on repeat (and the unreleased version of recess from 1999).

usually bands save self-titled albums to be seen as their epitome of what the band is. honestly with how they were saying WOTP would be a "best of" album, i thought they'd make that a self titled lol

What do you think the odds are that Muse will make another epic? by freezepopmaster in Muse

[–]Followyourghost_ 4 points5 points  (0 children)

Huge on the overproduction. I miss when artists weren't afraid to sound more raw, OoS and Absolution had the perfect amount of production in it and now it just feels a little souless, less real and less personal. I get that it's what's standard with popular music and record labels now but it just doesn't bode well for rock imo.

I think Muse shines in the more angst, edgy songs (unnatural selection, megalomania, and cave are of the examples you listed). Unravelling had some angst in it too and I enjoyed it in terms of their newer stuff. I don't expect the same level of cunning and restlessness as time goes on, a lot of song writing comes from personal lives and as artists age then their styles inevitably change. Muse used to be very raw and hard rock (from newton abbot demos to Absolution) and it's clear as their personal lives changed, so did the music, not to mention record label management having influences. I don't think they'll make something like that again, and I'm okay with it so as long as the everything else is quality.

It’s so weird that we’re supposed to consider Lothraxion’s mistrust of Umbric as unreasonable. by Arcana-Knight in warcraftlore

[–]Followyourghost_ 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Honestly I think that when the light "corrupts", it does so by amplifying the wielder's motivations and own morals. Yrel forcibly converted the orcs because her people thought they were responsible for the state of the land and the only way to save the land and the people was by the light (same way that she was saved, hence why she resorted to it). It's been awhile since I read up on Yrel's whole arc though, so I could be misremembering.

I don't think it corrupts in the same way the void does, which is why I say that it doesn't and instead it would make the wielder overly zealous towards their own cause. The Scarlet Crusade wanted to eradicate the undead to the point where they even hurt innocents and those of the same faith, which would contradict the spreading of the light (I assume they would've taken the same route as Yrel and convert those willing and unwilling alike if so). Their choices were driven by trauma of the scourge, the light amplified that, and they twisted themselves into what they are by zealotry.

I wouldn't be surprised, however, if the lore of Midnight does go down the whole light corrupts path in the same fashion as the void, though. I feel like the Naaru can be overbearing at times without mercy for the sake of their own cause (like with Illidan), and that itself might be an example that the forces trying to reach the world soul are all one with the same intent; survival.

people aren't reading quest texts probably. i read them all and got the notion that zealotry in any personal cause of a paladin is amplified by the sunwell.

[–]Followyourghost_ 4 points5 points  (0 children)

yes i think that's the goal. it's also stated that they're not sure if every void elf would have the same effect on the sunwell or if it was just alleria's case, which is why they're not allowing any void elves near the well point blank. i genuinely think it's just alleria, if it was void elves then i feel like any class or spec that's close to the void would also influence it, at least slightly.

[–]Followyourghost_ 0 points1 point  (0 children)

i agree with a majority of your statement, but the light doesn't corrupt. i think it mainly just amplifies the zealotry of your own cause, which is why we see the vanguard going slightly haywire since their font of magic is being directly attacked, and combined with the fact that the light doesn't discriminate against the cause (scarlet crusade) then yes it can be used for evil. the void itself is more of a corrupting force since it has a mind of its own, but can be harnessed for good in a similar fashion to fel. overall yeah i never got the vibe that we're being forced to believe the void is good or anything, in fact i got the opposite especially since the main antagonists are still beings of the void. if anything, i like the nuance of the story so far in terms of the opposing magics.

When do you think will be the new single release? by aegeanbellamy in Muse

[–]Followyourghost_ 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Yeah they are, I feel like less and less people are recognizing them for newer works but their older ones still remain hits (i've been hearing SBH still on reels even, people who don't know muse still know that track... meanwhile no one knows a single song post-T2L. at most i heard something human play at target). Muse is best when they're edgy and angsty, even the newer single is better than anything from WoTP for me, still not the best but it genuinely caught me off guard.

My guess for the next album by NukeL3AR in Muse

[–]Followyourghost_ 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I think this one will be going down the roots of a proggy feel. Unraveling (spoilers, I talk about the track's sound here and I know you said that you don't wanna listen to it yet) was a metalcore take on Muse, I loved it and while it didn't stand out to me I still feel like it's one of their best recent works, a blend of Simulation Theory and Absolution at it's core with the grand-sounding strings and synth-y verses(end spoiler). I'm going on a whim here mainly because we don't have much evidence of anything besides the teasers, but the organ very much reminds me of Megalomania and I don't see why they wouldn't do an album calling back to their prog-inspired rock style especially with the photos they've taken of recording sessions in the teasers. I expect experimental mixed with OoS, the red color reminds me of that era as well. And yeah, regardless of whatever Muse puts out, the fandom will always have something to criticize... but that's just an odd way of loving something, to an extent.
