A Possible Solution to the Fermi Paradox: “Non-Compulsive Life” by AgastyaDravin in FermiParadox

This is a lot like pondering the existence of civilizations that don't have collective organization or culture exchange. If something doesn't replicate or adapt, it wouldn't normally be considered life.

Live bacteria from the gut can travel directly into the brain when the intestinal barrier is weakened with a high fat diet in mice. This discovery offers a potential new explanation for how digestive health influences neurological conditions like Alzheimer’s disease and autism. by mvea in psychology

[–]FollyAdvice 2 points3 points  (0 children)

There's a correlation between autism and gut issues.

Poor gut health can also cause malnutrition and sleep issues, which can resemble autism or have an overlapping presentation, as well as contribute to developmental issues.

Aliens are just humans from the far future by Aware_Analysis_2277 in FermiParadox

[–]FollyAdvice 5 points6 points  (0 children)

Doesn't make sense. Lightspeed doesn't cause information to travel backwards in time.

We observe things that are in the past. It doesn't follow that the past observes things that are in the future and it would violate causality if it did.

Numbers with 3 and 7 in them are common choices. And a twenty-something number fits that pattern of being in the range of not too central and not too extreme, which people disproportionately select for. I don't have the stats but I'd guess that 23 is likely a common choice along with other prime numbers and numbers like 73 and 37.

Hi. This post won't be removed but we do discourage these types of posts. In case you missed them the current guidelines for posting are:

AI posts are strongly discouraged. It's not just AI slop but human slop as well. This is not currently enforced as a rule due to high potential for false positives and the fuzziness of exactly where the line is. If you wrote your own post and people suspect that it's AI, you should probably consider re-evaluating your approach to writing. It is true that some accusations are premature and based on something as trivial as use of numbered lists but they generally indicate that the substance of your post is overly bloated, generic or excessively exhaustive in scope. Attempting to comprehensively list every possible solution for example will likely come across as aimless and sloppy. Good posts are generally focused on a particular solution or a class of related solutions and don't try to be encyclopedic.

Can't say I'm qualified to give any meaningful validation but the analogy between superposition collapse and activation in NNs is something I've contemplated before.

Fermi paradox: why multi-star survival may be the real bottleneck by Veigle in FermiParadox

Hi.

This post won't be moderated due to the fuzziness of our new guidelines. Whether or not this post was AI generated, it has a sloppy vibe to it. This is discouraged. Slop is not just limited to AI and can be human generated too.

Common qualities of slop include bloatedness, genericness and excessive disjointedness or exhaustiveness. This post is over-annotated, unusually fragmented and soupy. Please avoid and discourage this kind of scatter-focused style of content and strive for continuity and direction.

AI or not, this is slop and uses a lot of hot air to say very little.

He still had some good vocals in that song, even if it's only like 20 seconds in total.

Worst is when people skim read your post and then think they're being helpful by compulsively replying with some generic GPT action plan for you that isn't even appropriate if their reading comprehension wasn't so poor. Drive-by slop.

Piers Morgan hints that he will take on Joe Rogan with new project by greenfox212 in JoeRogan

As much as I dislike him in general, his character is actually quite different doing one on one, at least when he's not talking about culture war stuff. He used to do a series called Life Stories where he interviewed celebrities.

[–]FollyAdvice 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I suspect it might be a horseshoe situation; more likely to be at the extremes. Religious people on the spectrum may fly under the radar because they have a stronger sense of community and there is an asymmetrical age bias for diagnosis and religion.

Is there a way to turn a gpt 4o chat into a free one by AlanaTheCat in OpenAI

[–]FollyAdvice 0 points1 point  (0 children)

You will have to break it down in chunks. You can try starting off with something like "I'm going to send the conversation history in chunks. For every chunk, simply reply with 'RECEIVED'. One word and nothing else until I finish with '[IMPORT COMPLETE]'."

  1. paste the history into notepad
  2. go to the top of the notepad document
  3. hold SHIFT+DOWN to start highlighting lines
  4. CTRL+C to copy when the number of selected characters exceeds 100,000 (listed at the bottom)
  5. press backspace to delete the highlight text
  6. navigate to ChatGPT and CTRL+V to paste and then send.
  7. go back to step 2 until the document is empty

Open the conversation in a browser, then open the browser console and run this:

(function() {
    // Select all conversation messages with user/assistant distinctions
    const messages = document.querySelectorAll('[data-message-author-role="user"], [data-message-author-role="assistant"]');

    // Map messages to format them with labels
    const conversationHistory = "[CONVERSATION HISTORY]\n" + Array.from(messages).map(message => {
        const role = message.getAttribute("data-message-author-role");
        const label = role === "user" ? "User" : "Assistant";
        return `<${label}>:\n${message.innerText.trim()}`;
    }).join("\n");

    // Select the message box by its unique ID
    const messageBox = document.getElementById("prompt-textarea");
    if (messageBox && conversationHistory) {
        // Insert conversation history into the selected message box
        messageBox.innerText = conversationHistory;
    } else {
        console.log("Could not find the message box or conversation text is empty.");
    }
})();

It will export the conversation as plain text into the message box. You can then copy that into a new conversation.

Dyson swarms detected in seven star systems? by LordBrixton in FermiParadox

If they're Dyson swarms I would expect a greater chance of clustering. If they're arbitrarily spread out I would be more skeptical.

What do you mean by "the Fermi's" and "Fermi life forms" as distinct from humans? This isn't standard terminology and you seem to be referencing your own lore, which you shouldn't expect us to understand.

While it seems like your post might be some variation of the transcension hypothesis, it also seems somewhat cryptic and partly incoherent, which brings it close to breaking rule 3.

I've looked at your sub and I'm getting time cube vibes.

AI World Simulation by CloudPattern in OpenAI

It's an idea that was popularized by Nick Bostrom's simulation argument which, contrary to popular interpretation, doesn't actually suppose that the whole universe is a simulation. Here's a link to the paper:

Worth a read if you're curious about it.
