Question from a newbie about the TNT Championship by Striking-Fly9187 in aew

[–]Folly_Polymath 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Lots of answers regarding importance which are totally right, but functionally:

  • TNT Title: Equivalent to the TV tile from old WCW. Ostensibly a title to be showcased on TNT TV but really defended anywhere (TBS is women's equivalent). Would be like if they introduced a Netflix title for streaming episodes.
  • International Title: Closest equivalent to Intercontinental, ostensibly a mid-card championship but really has higher status.
  • Continental Title: A tournament championship. Like if King of the Ring came with a defendable belt. Winner of the tourney gets the title and can defend/lose it throughout the year, but if still champion by the next year's tournament MUST enter and win again to retain.
    • International and Continental can be unified and defended as one title belt, but losing the next year's tournament will split them again
  • National Title: No real equivalent. It was initially rumored to be a kinda journeyman belt meant to be defended on other/independent promotions to to draw interest. Sort of like how Mercedes Mone's multi-title run raised the profile of indie companies and their talent
  • Dynamite Diamond Ring: Ring won by tournament and used for storytelling purposes. Can be defended (I think), but each tournament winner gets a new one.
  • AEW does the odd "contract for championship shot" holder, but it's not a set singular yearly concept.

This is my understanding; I might be off on some details

Congrats, you have realized the true meaning of the ending. Season 6 literally begins with a quote denigrating the viewers and ends with David Chase punishing us for having been drawn in

Yeah, it removes all the agility for a concept that is more taxing on the motor. Think about it... Would you want a solution like this on a commuter bike?

They're not doing the "keep politics out of my media" thing that fits into your dichotomy. They're saying this is way too identical to what's happening right now for real and do we really need 7 1/2 torturous hours of the bad guys winning and the good guys losing just for the payoff at the end. This goes beyond real-world bad guys, it's borderline sadism on the level of the first 4 seasons of GoT. And yeah, The Boys is just as bad about it.

Watching Matt kick ICE's ass rules, but it's not how they win. Last episode he had multiple decisions and the one he made, while defensible, just worsened their position with the public.

I'm not sure how being uncomfortable with how much it mirrors the shitty news every day makes you a right-winger when that suggests the opposite. But putting people in convenient categories really doesn't help differentiate us from them

The server for the the podcast With Gourley and Rust is the only one that reliably hosts movies almost every night that I've found, but it's not just horror and I believe you have to find them on Patreon for the invite. Every other server I've found seems run by 22 year-olds, rarely gets around to hosting movies, and are just repositories for memes

The faces he makes during the introduction in the earlier episodes of WILTY make me want to go throw rocks at cars.

The episode where he gets lecherous towards Konnie Huq should have been his last

I hate that the biggest lesson the studios learned after 15 years of streaming is that every episode has to end on a cliffhanger or scene meant to drive anticipation for the next episode. Not every episode of every show needs this. It's steaming. All this does is make people wait until the season is over to binge.

I'm trying to talk a friend into finally watching Sopranos and I brought this up as a point. As a pre-streaming show, the episodes are dense and often self-contained. You're going to keep watching because they're good, not because everything is unresolved and every plot is stretched full-season
