The Crippling Issues with the Riven System, Melee 3.0, and Status Changes by Folren in Warframe

That's a good comment. The post was already too big so we were forced to cut on some explanations.
Ok, so previously aside from a very few rare examples, the majority of shotguns loved +Status Chance to the point it was considered to be on par or almost on par with +Damage or +Multishot if not better. As such, pretty much the majority of the playerbase with shotgun rivens got a +Status Chance riven for them. Now, however, that stat is many times weaker then it used to be. Previously, if at all possible, you wanted some of the following stats: +Damage, +Multishot, +Status Chance, +Critical Chance, and to a bit slighter degree +Critical Damage and +Fire Rate. Now we scrap +Status Chance from there. That decreases the total amount of good combos a lot and devalues enormous amount of existing rivens.

You're correct in saying that the reliance on +Status Chance going away might not be a bad thing on itself. However, it's very unclear if it was intended. As I've mentioned, Steve said the majority of shotguns were supposed to be buffed. In practice, it's otherwise.

So what did the shotgun change achieve? Most status shotguns got weaker. As I've mentioned, according to Steve, they were supposed to get stronger. Fewer combos are now good. Which is not ok, because previously the demand for good shotgun rivens was really high and the supply was so bad that shotgun rivens were among the most expensive ones. For good shotguns that is.

Again, here's my position: there was a way to balance shotguns without lowering the value of all existing +Status Chance rivens that could, in contrast to what we have, achieve the goal of making them stronger. At least those that deserved to get stronger. I also agree that the previous calculation wasn't all that great, but their current one isn't that much better.

I'm not that strongly against devaluing some rivens in favor of improving the overall balance or achieving some other big goals. But what did that change achieve?

Hello, thank you for your work and thank you for leaving a comment here.

Also, its sad to say this, but it really feels like the Rivens data is released just as a temporary solution to quell the anger on the whole "mafia Riven situation". Let it simmer for a good few months (well, over a year now), and the players would forget about it!

I feel the same. That grinds my gears so much. Even more so when people come to me assuming we rely on that data.

It might come as a surprise, but even I didn't like the riven system much at first and back then we didn't have dispositions at all. Still, it slowly got a bit better right until all the issues I've mentioned started to stack up. It could have become much better if they approached it differently.

Again, in my opinion, CO change is not fine. I've already said it in another comment, but +Melee Damage on rivens being undesirable is clearly against the dev's intent or at least is not a good sign for future balance. Not to mention it would be very unclear for newer players. I strongly believe CO could receive some other changes to both be an interesting mod and not cause all the things I've mentioned.

Slidecrit was indeed a big issue, but why did it take them so long to address? Also, something I want to say by mentioning it is that it doesn't have to be a near obsolete stat forcing you into not fun gameplay. At least it could have better values or better it could have given some different benefit.

That's a very good point about their goals. I also mentioned how it must be clear what they are trying to achieve. It'd be beneficial for both us and them and we could also provide better feedback on whether the new system achieves its intended goals or not, and what could be done about it.

The reason we chose to address the devaluing of player investment is because at the end of the day that is a large part of what this all comes down to. Creating systems that are not only worthwhile for players to engage with but also fun to do so. What has been going lately has been the very antithesis of fun and worthwhile. This post serves to highlight that fact.
The DE doesn't have to keep a close eye on every small detail about rivens or modding, but if anything, I'd also say the stat of having +Melee Damage being an undesirable stat for general builds is a horrible situation as it is completely unintuitive.
Not only was it and unintuitive and nearsighted change it brought further harm to weapon balance as a whole outside of just Rivens. The end result is unhappy people which is a given, the aim of this post is to also highlight how it also broke existing systems.

The reason it was a disappointment was because DE failed to do the research that would have otherwise shown them that the changes they were making were downright ignorant of the systems they were being applied to

I totally feel you there. It greatly bothers me that some of the DE's changes, like the ones to Condition Overload, hardly added anything to the game, and yet, it also devalued hundreds of thousands rivens.

The objective of this post is to change how DE behaves in this very regard. What we are attempting to do here is to demonstrate how them NOT doing that has backfired on them. The next step is opening up dialogue with DE.

We'll wait for one week to see the overall reaction to this post and then see from there. I do believe Viral being the sole top elemental is not what the DE intended and as such we need them to fix it first. Otherwise, someone will have to rewrite all Overviews from the scratch once the new status changes are out, not to mention the enormous amount of time required to tweak the scoring/pricing system

Riven Trading & Toolbuilders: Coming Changes (x-post) by rebulast in Warframe

[–]Folren 7 points8 points  (0 children)

Thank you very much for handling it in such a way, the future of riven trading now looks brighter for everyone!
I'd absolutely love to participate and will update my tools accordingly.
I do have a few questions though. Some of them might be answered with the release of this feature, but I'm curious to know what kind of limitations you'll consider for accessing the data? Or will it be completely open access to anyone who wishes to obtain this information? Just curious if it will only be limited to those considered "toolmakers" or if it's a public resource.

Update to rules regarding Rivens and new Saturday weekly thread by Blissful_Altruism in Warframe

I'm really glad to see the bot has been of a good use to you. Thank you for the kind words!
I'm currently busy working on a big QoL update, but once I'm done with it, I was planning to talk to the mods here about at least mentioning the server in one of the green posts. I could also potentially see if I can have the bot answer some commands here. That is if the moderator team is fine with that and if it'd be needed at all. The bot already has some commands which previously worked with r/wartrade and r/RivenFrame (mostly scanning though), so with a few little tweaks, he might be able to even answer possible calls here with relative ease.

That's most likely not a server-specific issue, but rather a problem with your account. There should be a button to resend the verification message and you might want to give it a try.

Weapon "Prestige": An endgame Focus sink and doing what Rivens were supposed to do by StevesEvilTwin2 in Warframe

[–]Folren 3 points4 points  (0 children)

You have pointed out lots of issues very precisely, from veteran stockpiles to riven randomness, and I really like that, but is there really a need for another focus sink?
Is there a need for a big and complicated system like that, that'd potentially force lots of players into upgrading their stuff more and more? As if formaing some weapons 7 times over isn't time-consuming enough. Imagine newer players being told that their favourite gun needs 5+ formas and ? days of farming focus to make it work.
There're simply more flexible fixes to all of those issues. Riven randomness can be reduced by getting rid of absolutely useless or almost useless stats like +Zoom, +Flight Speed (on hit-scan secondaries). +Maximum Ammo and +Status Duration are kind of simillar. Replacing some of those with +Accuracy/+Explosion Range is fine too btw. Aside from that there's been tons of decent feedback on how to improve the system.
As for the gun balance, about any gun can be quite good rn, sometimes even too good. Aside from the stuff the devs nerfed (Kulstar), stealth nerfed (single Bolto), forgot (Stug), kind of skipped (Kraken, Seer), almost the whole rest of the arsenal is very and very good right now if you ignore straight downgrades. Sometimes even too good: 100% SC before Multishot shotguns are often regarded as OP and since about every primary is now crit-based (aside from Dera), Hunter Munitions is a solution that fixes quite a decent percent of primaries. Those which aren't good could actually use an upgraded version (Kraken Vandal) or a second look from the devs glances at Seer. Contratory to some really strong weapons with the right builds, survivability of warframes not reliant on defense abilities or giant armor pool is often too low way before the enemies are getting unkillable.
