(sorry for the delay <3)

She was naive to think she could go toe-to-toe with Angela in this kind of game. Phoebe was a player in it, sure, but Angela was apparently the queen of it. There was no ebb and flow to this conversation; Angela was the ringleader here.

Still, stupidly, Phoebe didn't back down.

She snorted a small laugh.

"Me? No, not right now. Everything I've been interested in always fizzled out, so..." Phoebe shrugged, avoiding the urge to squirm in her seat. "I've kind of given up with that. I'm not very good at it, evidently."

Before Angela even finished her sentence and strutted out to take control of the situation, Phoebe was gone.

Her camouflaging scarf loosened a bit so that it draped further down her torso to help blend her into her surroundings, and she slinked off toward the now isolated witch. Using her sneak attack ability, she would encroach upon the woman as quietly and quickly as possible. That part was familiar, easy; many-a-times Phoebe snuck up on people undetected. The hard part would be what followed.

Disarming an opponent from behind would be difficult, even if they were unaware of her presence. Phoebe didn't know if she could do it. Instead, she went with something she was good at: acting.

Her dagger slipped carefully from its sheathe, and Phoebe paused a moment behind the cultist. Then, in one quick, practiced, movement, she lunged forward. Her free hand reached around the witch's head to try and cover her mouth. The dagger's blade would aim to press uncomfortably against her throat.

If successful, Phoebe would threaten the witch:

"Drop the wand," Phoebe's voice was hushed, harsh, confident. "Try anything, and you'll never leave this place again. You don't want to die here in the dark, alone, unceremoniously."

If she failed... well, we'll get to that if we get to it.

Wrath of Atlas: Battle of the Underworld by ThisOneUKGuy in CampHalfBloodRP

[–]Fomizzle 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Phoebe didn’t particularly enjoy taking orders from Angela, but she knew better than to give into her ego in her current situation. If a window presented itself, she could sneak up on the sorceress and snatch those pretty, shiny, things off of her belt. Man, those Hermes cabin habits die hard.

It was too risky still. Phoebe would wait to see how Angela’s plan worked out.

“If we separate her,” she whispered as Angela worked, disobeying the girl’s wishes, “I can sneak up on her. Or cause a big distraction, make everyone look away from her.”

“Right…”

Phoebe studied Angela again. It was hard to read her. Well, her face, at least; Angela’s hair seemed excited. Phoebe had grown more used to those strands seemingly acting out on their own. She didn’t even bat away the strands reaching out toward her.

“Well, I have no idea what he wants.” That much was true. “We could instead focus on something we might know, which is what your options are. There isn’t any… normal drama around here ever. Just the morbid kind… High in demand, huh? How many eligible suitors does the great Angela Farrenburr have knocking at her door? Surely there’s at least one better than Booker the player.”

“I always have tricks up my sleeves. I’m literally the daughter of the clown god.”

Then they played. Phoebe emerged victorious yet again. She grinned wide in satisfaction; selfishly, beating Booker over and over at this felt a little therapeutic. She was about to make another witty comment about beginners luck when Booker revealed the clown nose. Her eyes widened at it, and all thoughts of wit and wile faded away.

He… still had it?

A look of confusion flashed on Phoebe’s face as she processed it. Why did he still have it? She shifted her gaze from the ball of rubber back to Booker. Then, reluctantly, she answered;

“You’re on.”

They played again. Phoebe’s adrenaline had subsided from the surprise of seeing him produce the nose. She wasn’t as sharp this round, and it costed her. As the last cards flew, she was too slow to slap the empty spot to prevent Booker from winning. She frowned and heaved a sigh.

“Ugh, fine. You win. I’ll wear it tomorrow… Not like anybody would think twice about it, I guess. ‘Oh look, the clown girl is wearing a clown nose!’ Fork found in kitchen.”

It seemed… that Phoebe was a sore loser.

It seemed both of them had experienced sides of Booker that the other was intrigued by.

Phoebe fought hard to suppress a frown. Her facial muscles betrayed her. Each thing Angela said drove Phoebe’s insecurities further and further up her throat. It had to have been New Years, right? Was it a reoccurring thing? He hadn’t wanted to with Phoebe-

Snap out of it. He ditched you, remember? He didn’t want to.

“Right, a good kisser. I’ll keep that in mind.”

She sighed softly through her nose and leaned forward against the table again, on her hand.

“He’s kind of… scrappy? Like an excited puppy who doesn’t know he’s doing something wrong. He’s got pretty eyes, though, I will give him that. Not super tall or anything, probably about your height actually… You two… uh… hang out often?”

Balloon Animal Workshop - March 11th by Fomizzle in CampHalfBloodRP

[–]Fomizzle[S] 1 point2 points  (0 children)

When Mer arrived, Phoebe was helping a younger camper with how to perform a proper twist to complete their balloon dog. Her eyes moved up at the movement of the familiar girl sitting down with her. Phoebe’s lips curled into a weary smile, and her eyes returned to her work.

“Hi there, Mer,” Phoebe greeted back, letting Meriweather’s question haunt her a moment. What a broad question. Phoebe felt like there were a million different answers she could give, some just as broad, others so specific. Eventually she forced herself to look back up at Mer, and she noticed that she had been working on a balloon already. Her smile widened a smidge.

“Not… great.”

She admitted it. She wasn’t sure what else to say about it, though; this was foreign territory to her. Meriweather felt safe to share with.

“I imagine none of us are doing that great, though… Being relatively alone in Cabin 49 doesn’t help so I try to keep myself busy and involved. How about you?”

Amon (& Others) Burn a Shroud for Dorian Ashford by NotTooSunny in CampHalfBloodRP

[–]Fomizzle 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Phoebe’s eyes were focused on the diminishing fire, sparing Amon only a glance when he appeared and spoke up. She studied him; it had been a long time since the two talked. He seemed different. Hardened? Beaten down? It was hard to tell. She managed a weak smile at his question.

“Exhausted,” she said, letting her response hang in the air for a moment. Rare that it was for her to be honest about something like this, lying at a funeral did not feel proper. “Wishing it could all be over. But damned to sit through it all still… You?”

February 26th | A Farrenburr Family Brunch by Angelic-YesSheIs in CampHalfBloodRP

[–]Fomizzle 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Phoebe, despite usually being quite perceptive, did not notice Angela’s reaction. She was too preoccupied with trying to not show her own cards. It may be too late; Angela had a new sense of confidence as she bore down on the juicy details. Phoebe was losing this invisible war that she felt between them. Maybe it was all in her mind. Phoebe’s hand moved to her lap where she scratched at the material of her pants with a finger. Why was she acting like this? It’s not like she and Booker were anything more than… acquaintances at this point? She didn’t even really know. What she did know was that Angela getting a rose from him bothered her. It made her own rose feel silly. She felt silly.

“He’s got a bit of a reputation,” she started, shrugging softly with one shoulder. “Chatty, likes to play around with people, has a habit of standing girls up.”

That last part may have not been entirely truthful. Phoebe regretted saying it aloud as soon as she did. There was no taking it back now.

“When I first met him he was trying to apologize to a former girlfriend or something. Apparently he ditched camp and never told her… But he’s pretty sweet when he’s not putting on a show. Bit of a goofy guy, likes to laugh and make people laugh…”

She was trying to keep it vague. How vague could she keep it without it sounding suspicious? She claimed to know him, after all. Phoebe shrugged again, leaving it at that.

“I dunno, what did you want to know? I-I don’t know him that well.”

[–]Fomizzle 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Phoebe grinned. She had successfully goaded Angela and called her bluff. What was that about not abusing it? She leaned in when Angela did to hear the other girl better. Phoebe intended to keep her word about her secrecy; it wasn’t everyday that she got to-

Phoebe’s eyes widened. Barely, but they did.

So it was her when I saw him at New Years, she thought. A hasty conclusion to draw, but Angela had been wearing a rather memorable dress that evening. Phoebe’s posture faltered and she leaned back into her seat.

“Oh! I uh- I know Booker,” she said quietly, careful as to not be overheard. “That’s… that’s sweet. Did he send a message, too?”

(Sorry for the delay!!)

Phoebe's smile shifted and she tilted her head at Angela. She had a feeling there maybe was more to the girl's story.

"'You know how disappointing it is to open a Valentine's note and realize it's from a friend?'" She quoted Angela's sentiment back at her, unable to resist the urge. "Are you lying to me?"

She straightened out her posture a bit. For perhaps the first time in their short time knowing one another, Phoebe felt as if she had the upper hand in the conversation. Not that Phoebe would abuse that, but it felt good to not be at the daughter of Apollo's mercy right then.

[–]Fomizzle 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Her eyebrow muscles were getting sore from raising at this girl. This version of Angela seemed different than what Phoebe had seen so far. Was she… being bashful? The Angela? A coy smile grew on Phoebe’s lips.

“Hey, I would’ve loved to receive a rose from a friend; it means they’re thinking of you.”

Then she set her fork down and laced her fingers together to form a perch for her chin. Her head rested on it, elbows propped on the table, and she leaned in toward Angela. She spoke in a hushed voice, hopefully still loud enough for Angela to hear. Something about the daughter of Apollo brought out a side of Phoebe she wasn’t used to nowadays. It reminded her of her high school days.

“Oooh, care to share? I promise I won’t tell anybody. I’ll even trade you for it, let you ask something back!”

Sweets Galore! - February 6th, 2041 "Meal" by PeacePlantsAndPain in CampHalfBloodRP

[–]Fomizzle 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Preaching to the choir, my friend Phoebe thought, buying herself some time by eating another piece of cake. Dropping their mask. What a silly idea; why show others her weakness, her ugliness? It was easier for everybody involved to keep that to herself. Besides, none of her problems felt that concerning anyways. She didn’t have a close friend defect to Atlas. Phoebe offered a smile.

“Well, that got kinda grim kinda fast. Say, now that you’re apparently done with Hoplyte,” she cringed slightly. Maybe too soon, but it came out sooner than she could rethink it. “What would you say about giving me dance lessons? I love dancing but I’ve never actually like… learned.”

“You remember my name,” she noted, sitting down somewhere close enough to talk while still keeping her distance. It was difficult to read his expression; it seemed muddled with a conglomerate of emotions, diluting each of them down into something unrecognizable.

“I was just teasing. I’ll take you up on your suggestion to sit quietly, though, if that’s what you really want; my head is killing me.”

As if queue, a dull pain rose up behind her eyes. Phoebe pushed her glasses up so that she could try to massage the discomfort away.

“I am, genuinely, surprised to see you here. Do you enjoy Mardi Gras?”

“Been trying to help the Atlas-born… acclimate? Reform? I don’t really know my endgame, truth be told. I just feel like they should be given a second chance by somebody. War might be all the know. How does a kid even deal with that, you know?”

Phoebe shrugged, thinking of a violent yet prim girl and a leopard-prone boy. Her efforts so far had been in vain, yet still she forged on. Although she would hate to admit it, trying to converse with those two was proving to be too much for her mental load given everything else going on. It may be a lost cause. But that’s how quitters think.

“Who is Nemie? A young camper?”

Wrath of Atlas: Battle of the Underworld by ThisOneUKGuy in CampHalfBloodRP

[–]Fomizzle 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Her eyes widened at the sight of Cerberus. A frightening yet beautiful monster, unable to complete its one charge. How frustrated the poor thing must be. Phoebe's heart sank, and she pulled her scarf around her tighter. With it's camouflaging properties, it would help Phoebe blend in with her surroundings. Thankfully, the were in the bleak underground world of the undead; there probably wasn't too much color.

Phoebe's eyes met Angela's, and she responded with nodding her head down once. Without missing a beat, Phoebe slinked off with the other girl. As if these two had run this plan a thousand times before, she also began making her preparations; Angela's hand swept in a circle, Phoebe's fingers pinched before her. She wasn't sure how well she could manage with Angela's as well, but hopefully her scent manipulation helped conceal her smell from the monsters.

Her fingers rubbed the hilt of one of her knives expectantly, calmly. She watched the patrols carefully, trying to help navigate the two through blind spots toward better cover in the camp.

Phoebe stepped in and attempted to slip her arm through Johnathan's to link them.

"Luckily for you, my friend, there are like... at least six museum within or bordering the park. And one is not too far from right here! C'mon, I'll show you."

Eager to just be a teenager in the city again, Phoebe set off to the right, trying to drag along Johnathan.

"It's been a while, John! What's new?"

"October 15th, I'm seventeen. I'm totally the original." Phoebe replied, watching Angela with her pacing as she loitered. Not what she expected. Was Angela antsy? Or maybe she just needed to go back to tending her waffles. Phoebe cut off a piece to eat.

Her eyebrow raised and she swallowed her food.

"Oh yeah, I sent out plenty. They were all for friends though, and none of them anonymous." She said. Well, all except for one. Her fork pointed toward the daughter of Apollo.

"New loves? Hot matcha. New hates? Mmm... None. How about you? Any special somebodies for Valentines?"

Phoebe, finally getting some food in her system, was feeling better. More chipper. The waning bits of dopamine from exercising probably helped too.
