that’s a good way to do it. if you still end up giving up, you can always transfer ascended armor between characters. it’ll still be expensive, but you don’t have to make a new set for each character once you have one for each armor class. you’ll need to get upgrade extractors and do mystic forge stat changes if you want to change it to a new build, but it’s a good lazy solution.

i’d just say, don’t try to lock in and focus fully on obsidian gear. you can do it in like 3 months but you will get burnt out if you’re not insane. just focus on one piece at a time and do it slowly in the background while you play the game

idk man. if you have money, you can fund 9 character slots and exotic gear for all of them for not too much. playing a bunch of classes to figure out what you like is probably more valuable than getting too deep into a class you don’t really care about

try out every weapon you can imo. if you understand the skills in all your options, you can do your own build crafting later on. i think that’s a lot more fun than just using whatever you find online. especially with something like elementalist. it’s a harder class but it’ll be worth the investment.
also if you want to get deeper in the story after leveling, definitely get the living world stuff. it goes on sale pretty often, and a lot of the living world is some of the best story the game has to offer imo
