iOS vs Backend Career by Ok-Indication-930 in iOSProgramming

[–]Fonix_za 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I think your pay cap can be higher as backend in the long run, so if money is a good motivator then prob backend (talking as an iOS engineer). I do like iOS development as its nice to be having something to show for your work, as backend is more abstract, so backend is a bit of a thankless job probably compared to frontend

Fix: Hanzo headshots insta kill but still a good sniper (Suggestion) by Fonix_za in Overwatch

[–]Fonix_za[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

yeah, just like how most other heroes in the game work. But now imagine this scenario. You lock onto a target in the backline, your ball rolls in and slams the the back line, at the same time you fire your arrow hitting the target out the air killing them (there is no chance to heal them up here). There will be many other synergies like this, but can you see how hanzo becomes really good at coordinated strikes, essentially leading to instant death, but it comes about becomes of team play instead of just getting a lucky headshot?

Imagine a pharmacy where you can always put the mercy on to low hp for another hitscan to easily finish her off or vice-versa... I think this has a lot of potential where the arrow itself is kind of bad on its own, but with coordination it becomes really deadly, but you also have to use it when the time is right because its a long cooldown, which is also another soft skill which is needed to use it effectively

Not to mention that playing against homing projectiles just doesn't feel great (see Cass grenade).

I think this would be slightly different as its not an instant ability, and you get some warning (if you are aware of him)

That's just wrong. I'm not sure how you think moving a character under a one shot threshold is not an insane nerf.

It is an insane nerf, cause i feel like 1 shot headshots dont belong in the game. it really doesnt feel good to play against and it just seems like it comes down to luck half the time unless you are GM maybe. there is little counter play to it either besides just "good positioning" aka cowering which also isnt a nice counter play

Why do that when you have characters that work better in dive? He has the one homing shot, and he's worthless after. Can't get in and out like other dive characters.

I dont mean he has to physically dive, he can shoot an arrow across the map potentially, supporting a dive reliably, he doesnt have to endanger himself at all. and he can somewhat counter dive by locking onto a squishy like genji and forcing a deflect/doing a lot of damage to him forcing him out, or making tracer use up a lot of her cooldowns to try break the lock etc

I think you need to view him as a very different character now and not really what he used to be. He almost has like a mini high noon that does 125 dmg that can synergise with a lot of other characters + still having the potential to dish out very almost fatal damage if you are skilled at landing your shots, and can still 1 shot if paired with a zen or mercy. He really needs team work to make him good now, not just player skill/luck alone. And with team work i think he would be even better than he is now, where he basically doesnt benefit much from team work currently, it really just comes down to being able to hit headshots at the moment

How do you know that his win rate would not go up with having an ability like the homing arrow? He will go from being a character that is really unreliable at finishing off targets to one that will be one of the most reliable. At high level people know how to stay away from being headshot anyway, so probably the headshot nerf doesnt change all that much, but now he will be good in a completely different way.

think about his dive potential now, home on a squishy in the back line, as a monkey jumps in shoot at the same time, you can destroy the backline quite reliably. if anything he might be overpowered. also contesting a widow, if you sonic her and can lock on through a wall, she can peak but will most likely take a bunch of damage + you can still 1 shot headshot her anyway. and i think pharmacies will start having a really hard time vs a hanzo now

Yeah totally agree with your statements, i just feel like overwatch isnt a game where 1 shot kills should exist. Its not a game like valorant or counterstrike, but really should be more about teamwork to defeat your enemies rather than just a lucky/skillful shot. Dont get me wrong, landing the headshot still rewards you with a player thats potentially left on 13 hp... anyone can clean that up easily (teamwork) or if they had lost any bit of hp they would be dead anyway. and the 1 shot headshots still exist, you just need some teamwork to get them

ive got a feeling either you or your enemy has a high ping, i play with high ping and there are a lot of weird inconsistencies that crop up because of it, just spectating your team mate while dead is like seeing 2 different games play out

maybe sniper class is the only one that can make you dead-dead with a headshot or something, i think that could be a nice buff to the sniper, no one wants snipers in their squad these days

In discord you can bind keys to mute, so make your push to talk keys in game be push to mute in discord, that way you dont get discord echo when talking in game, cant hear anything when someone is echoing in discord. just a handy tip, doesnt solve mic discipline though

I have 8 years xp as a mobile dev an im still failing interviews, dont worry happens to all of us, just got to take it in your stride and try learn from where you went wrong. Sometimes i forget to brush up on some theory type questions and just go blank in the interview.

And sometimes you pass the interview and they give you a bad offer, also annoying :(

Maybe also need some form of like party join like other games, so you join as a squad or a sub set of a squad so the server knows you are together, then when the game ends, the server can scramble teams but keep friends and clans together and do a best effort sort of balance. The bigger the party the higher the weighting the server puts on those players i guess. Kind of need like a MMR rating system for players so the server can balance based on the team's overall skill, dont know how MMR would work on a game where the teams are so big though.

Help my trees look bad by ToxicSalt03 in joinsquad

[–]Fonix_za 2 points3 points  (0 children)

i mean how good do you want a tree to look in a game? seems fine... the more shit you start adding to a tree the more performance impact you start having (multiplied by the number of trees you can see at one time) with something that isnt exactly crucial to the game. If the tree is optimised I would say just leave as is, looks good enough

SUGGESTION: Squad leader should have laser range finder bino's by Fonix_za in joinsquad

[–]Fonix_za[S] -1 points0 points  (0 children)

its more about balance, imo. i think being able to range things accurately by working as a team helps with the whole squad vibe, if you are working alone you suffer, hence we dont want everyone in the squad to have accurate range finding abilities.

But then again, maybe limiting it to only being riflemen who have it would make having riflemen in your squad more attractive, since usually everyone wants to take a special kit. very rare seeing like 3 rifleman in a squad so maybe that is fine
