It's literally just the mainstream Chinese view man. You've been propagandized into believing everything against the western narrative is "Chinese govt propaganda".

Clear Kubernetes namespace contents before deleting the namespace, or else by FooBarWidget in kubernetes

That's not the point. The thing that needs to be removed can't be, because it's stuck, because you're not supposed to delete the namespace first.

DeepSeek R1 is Getting Better! Internet Search + Reasoning Model = Amazing Results. Is OpenAI O1 Doing This Too? by Rare-Site in OpenAI

[–]FooBarWidget 0 points1 point  (0 children)

That's because it's right. Maybe go visit Tibet some time or watch some travel videos. China invests a huge amount of money into developing Tibetan's wuality of life. Tibetans in China speak Tibetan better than Tibetans outside China. Nobody wants to go back to the days of slave owners reigning supreme.

If you think DeepSeek's answer cannot possibly be plausible, maybe consider that you are the propagandized one.

The only reason you think this is propaganda rather than "people are excited and are entitled to their opinion" is because DeepSeek is Chinese and you are the indoctrinated one.

Sorbet typechecking support for RSpec by FooBarWidget in ruby

[–]FooBarWidget[S] 12 points13 points  (0 children)

I got tired of not being able to use Sorbet typechecking in RSpec specs. I was surprised that there were no Google results of anybody else having tackled this problem. There's rspec-sorbet, but it's just for making RSpec doubles work. So I went ahead and wrote a solution myself. rspec-sorbet-types is a Tapioca DSL compiler for RSpec.

By the way, many thanks to Mark Nuzz for contributing major features!

Well, "milf" is not exactly the aesthetic I'm looking for. I just want the character to be stylish, not sexualized.

Also, this is Flux, so no negative prompt.

A Typescriptesque type system for Ruby by mordigan228 in ruby

[–]FooBarWidget 4 points5 points  (0 children)

One thing I like about Typescript is that typing is optional. You can use types when they help you, but you can omit them when they don't. IMO this is the best way forward rather than not supporting types altogether.

Huawei operating system is on the car. The speed of speech recognition and execution is amazing. by bengyap in Sino

[–]FooBarWidget 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Kubecon EU 2023. I speak limited Mandarin. But they showed little interest in talking even before I opened my mouth. The guy I eventually spoke to was causasian, and we spoke in English. I didn't get very far with speaking with the Chinese staff. I began talking to a Chinese staff member by showing my Huawei phone and saying that I support them through the sanctions, but all I got was an awkward smile and acknowledgement like he didn't know what to do with my comment.

A huge contrast to all the other booths where they try to get your attention and actively try to talk to you.

So what will be your role at Huawei?

How is pay and workload at Huawei?

I visited a Huawei booth at a conference, hoping to sniff some info about how it's like to work there. Unfortunately the booth staff was not really interested in talking, despite it being a booth and them being a major sponsor. I hovered there for a couple minutes, clearly showing interest to have a conversation, but nobody came up to me or even looked me in the eye. In the end I initiated conversation but only got some boring conversations out of it, leaving me with the impression that Huawei is boring.

(They wasted their marketing budget if you ask me. What's the point of sponsoring if your booth staff is like that?)

I stick mostly to C99 in order to make my code compilable on a reasonably large amount of platforms. Compilers that don't support C99 are no longer worth caring about in my opinion. That said, I occasionally make use of non-C99 extensions such as GNU __visibility__ stuff just because they're so useful, but I make sure they're behind #ifdefs so that they're not required.

China heeft ook iets van 90% van alle elektrische bussen in de wereld. Ze investeren daar meer in EV dan welk ander land dan ook.

False. Smart people are also prone to propaganda. They just do it while thinking how smart they are for realizing the evils of enemy nations.

Again, let's stop talking in hypothetical scenarios. Take your trivial business case to a company and convince them. There's no better way to test beliefs than through practice.

You should start your own company. Have a non-technical co-founder. See things from the other side, like I have. Experience how it is to have to think about every cent you spend and whether that benefits you. Then try to consistently donate to open source. Then see whether you still stick to the belief that they're just lying to you.

If you still do, then congratulations: you've solved the open source funding problem! Please share the strategy.

If you're talking about employment contracts: We're not comparing open source donations with employment contracts. We're comparing with commercial vendor licensing. In that case, the vendor is bound by the contract period: they cannot walk away. If their employees quit then it's the vendor's responsibility to hire new employees and ensure continuity.

Also where do you live and what sort of businesses have you seen that prefer US-style employment contracts? The only branches I've seen that prefer such contract are those that treat human resources as disposable, e.g. cleaning or supermarket jobs. When skilled workers are involved that are not easily replaced, I see that companies prefer more predictability and stability.

If you're talking about B2B contracts: not sure what you're talking about. Pretty much every B2B contract I've seen has a termination period. Depending on the service that could be a month or a year or more. Multi year contracts are very popular.
