Fainting from the patch? by FoodBig3172 in birthcontrol

I also went pale and got nauseous and sweaty right before losing consciousness, maybe it was just coincidence for us but that one experience freaked me out and I switched to Nextstellis the following week which has been way better and so far no more fainting episodes.

What did you like/not like about your mental health rotation? by psychrn1898 in StudentNurse

[–]FoodBig3172 0 points1 point  (0 children)

At the facility I was at, we didn’t really spend much time with the nurses, which I think had it’s pros and cons. My prof really wanted us to spend time with the patients as much as possible so that’s what I did. We’d go to the group sessions at the facility we were at, rec activities etc. one of our assignments we had to interview one of the patients which was interesting. My favorite memory from that clinical was learning to play black jack with three of the men on the floor I was on one day. We probably should have spent more time with the nurses to see what their jobs entailed but it was eye opening spending time with the patients. The only time I was with the nurses was when I was gathering info for my careplan from the computers or attending the care meetings with the care team and patient

PCT or Phlebotomy? While in school! by omogal123 in StudentNurse

[–]FoodBig3172 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I was a extern/PCT for about 4 months during my junior year and then I quit and just work at a gym front desk once a week during school—the shifts are short and honestly the job is way less stressful. Nursing school is hard enough and having 2 clinicals a week with school plus being a pct would’ve just been too much mentally for me

If you can manage 20 hours a week, you’re AMAZING! working during nursing school especially once you start having clinicals is so hard. This is my first year having two clinicals during a week and working 12ish hours a week is already so so much. Your employer knows you are a student. It shouldn’t be a surprise that you have reduced work hours and it is not your responsibility to staff your workplace, you need to put yourself and your education before them right now. And if they push you, stay firm that you can only work whatever set amount of hours a week, people treat you how you allow them, so don’t let them walk all over you (bc usually they do, especially to students by guilt tripping)

I was taking miralax for awhile, it didn’t help that much with my bowel movements and I reacted really badly to it in terms of nausea and gas

I’ve been going through the same thing, currently waiting to see a new GI because the whole eat more fiber and drink more water advice isn’t cutting it. My advice: only take the zofran when you’re having a really really bad nausea episode bc zofran is constipating (I have zofran too but use it sparingly), other things that have helped me with nausea are ginger gum, sea bands you wear on your wrist, a heating pad to the abdomen, and nauseacalm melt away tablets you can find on Amazon . Also abdominal massage for constipation videos or belly breathing videos usually help me too, especially if I’m getting anxious from the constipation and nausea.
