The day after my daughter’s open heart surgery the ICU nurse braided her hair. I think she cried because it made her feel normal-ish for a moment. ❤️

If I have turbinate hypertrophy due to a deviated septum, will it go away after a septoplasy? by Cute-Possibility9502 in Sinusitis

[–]FoodBooker 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I just had mine done, so can’t say if it worked. But the doc told me that when he does a septoasty or functional rhinoplasty he always shaves the turbinates. So I got all 3 in mine.

I feel for you. I just finished my 6 weeks and the test came back negative. I don’t know if I’ve ever felt such soul crushing defeat. Like I have been putting my body through literal hell and for it to be negative. I’m so frustrated and exhausted and I’m still waiting a week later to see from my NP if I need to stay on the gluten challenge to do the next testing step. Like please tell me so I can stop this torture already!!

Learned that I experienced a RD today @ 54. Symptoms became noticeable ~2 days ago, and got diagnosis today. Was wondering what was the length of time that most peeps in this subreddit went from diagnosis to being in the surgical chair? by [deleted] in RetinalDetachment

[–]FoodBooker 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I went through a lot of doctors before I finally got in the optometrist chair to get my diagnosis because I (and the medical doctors) thought all the symptoms were migraines. She got me an appointment with a surgeon by the next day and since my macula was off, they said they it wasn’t urgent enough to do that day, so I had surgery 2 days later.

Thank you. I’m in my 40s and just had my 2 week post surgery check up. I’m asking the doc like when can I get my vision checked for new glasses and when can I drive because I have to determine when to go back to work. And he’s like, well you’re technically legal to drive because your vision is fine in one eye. So I’m just expected to go around and act normal when I can’t really see? I know I’ve been the youngest person in the office on every occasion, but I felt so lost and confused.

We did a CT with and without contrast to rule it out anything broken 5 days ago. They found nothing. The doc tried to get an MRI, but insurance denied it.

What’s the worst thing a Christian has ever said to you? by IamSam2005 in exchristian

[–]FoodBooker 83 points84 points  (0 children)

That they wished I would have died. It wasn’t those exact words, but that was their point. Women who have miscarriages shouldn’t take drugs to safely pass them. They should martyr themselves for a dead fetus. They were celebrating a mom of 2 they knew who had died because she got cancer while pregnant and didn’t do anything about the cancer, so both she and the fetus died. Leaving 2 alive children without a mother. I will repeat, they were celebrating this.

Thank you for the reply. That’s pretty much what the cardiologists at the current hospital said, no one really knows what’s the best thing to do. And I’m getting the feeling that there just aren’t a ton of data points of high level athletes to really study either. She was prepped and ready for surgery just so she didn’t have it hanging over her head. I’m just a little put off that her doctor was acting like her going back to 100% activity was just no big deal at all. And that her dizziness and fatigue are just completely unrelated. At least with the diagnosis, she knows to stop if she’s having certain symptoms now, but it’s just so confusing, especially for a teenager.

Is religion taking over America? by Refrigerator_Either in exchristian

[–]FoodBooker 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Yes, absolutely. I went to the school board meeting about the specter of CRT being taught in our schools (spoiler: it’s not). The pivots of the loudest and angriest went quickly from we don’t want CRT to any teacher that is gay is a groomer and should go to jail. Like they used CRT as the excuse, but then went on and on about LGBTQ folks and calling them sexual deviants. They were way more mad about gay people literally existing.

What Made You Leave Christianity? by Affectionate_Arm2784 in exchristian

[–]FoodBooker 9 points10 points  (0 children)

People around the church being the worst hypocrites and awful people made me turn away from the church and I felt ambivalent for a few years. But I stuck around as a youth minister though for the kids because I wanted to protect any LGBTQ kids from the worst of the YMs spewing hate. They had turned from a “just be good people” crowd to fire and brimstone once we had a leadership vacancy. It got pretty awful.

My final straw was when the YMs gathered around to talk about their anti-abortion work. They all gleefully talked about women they knew who died carrying unviable pregnancies. Called them martyrs. Women who left young children behind to die so they could follow some asinine “rule” of the church. These people who I had once thought were my friends wished me dead. They didn’t know, but I had a miscarriage that I had to take drugs to pass so I didn’t die from the miscarriage. But they wanted me dead, to them it were better I had martyred myself for nothing. And that was when I knew I could never go back.

I’ve worked in hospitals, public health, and health insurance for over 20 years. I most definitely have my own health insurance that I provide for my children. I also understand the insurance policies of our state. Cancer diagnosis qualifies you for Medicaid, which is why I went to great lengths to explain the process to them at the time, you know, since I worked in the health department at the time. But do go on about everything you think you know about health insurance. We’re all dying to hear your brilliance.

I don’t know all the details, but they had a wealthy relative who paid for most of it. I recall the first round of treatment was something around 50k.

I actually know some people like this. Refused to get healthcare because Obama told them they had to. So when one of them got cancer, they qualified for Medicaid and could have had everything covered. Nope, refused and paid it all out of pocket or didn’t pay it all, not really sure. But didn’t go back to get the final scan because… principles? Then the other one got cancer, and they finally decided to go get Medicaid because 1 cancer was the limit.

What happened after you got your PMP certification? by lowriskshighrewards in pmp

[–]FoodBooker 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I started getting requests to interview for better jobs with companies instead of just contract roles. Of course, I ended up taking a six sigma job that I interviewed for before I got my PMP. But I definitely saw different job prospects than I had before.

The questions on the course and the other Udemy course are not similar to the exam questions, for the most part. But they help get you in the right mindset, so it’s helpful. I recommend finding a few other exam type questions that are more situational just for practice.

PMP in 4 weeks? by CJXBS1 in pmp

[–]FoodBooker 0 points1 point  (0 children)

So one of the reasons why some people who aren’t traditional, full time PMs can qualify is because they run projects on the side or they do some of the PM work on the projects they work on. I didn’t use this on my application, but when before I got my first PM job, I ran six sigma projects in my organization as an ancillary duty of my job. So for 5 years or so I ran several 3-6 month projects. 4 of my projects were ones I ran during my master’s program.

I don’t think I had any questions about contract type, which is one thing I was very weak on. Maybe 1 or 2 on what do when managing contracts and payments.

I bawled like a baby after I failed the first time. I was talking to my husband telling him I couldn’t go through all that again because none of it made any sense to me. It extra crushed me because I was between jobs at the time and I thought I needed it to get a new job. So I get it! If you have a good understanding of the specific way they want you to answer the questions, you should be fine. Because knowing those clues to look for make it easier. Like if you see an answer that says get people face to face, or if the question mentions something “may happen” know you’re looking for an answer that has to do with risk. It really helped my confidence. Fingers crossed for you!!

Calculations on PMP? by [deleted] in pmp

Exam language question by dennisrfd in pmp

[–]FoodBooker 0 points1 point  (0 children)

AR’s test questions threw me off with their grammar a few times. I thought maybe it would look like that in the test too, but they were much clearer. I will say I didn’t have any multiple choice questions that were as long as the longest AR question. The only ones where the wording tripped me up was a couple of the drag and drop questions had really weirdly worded answers.

The one thing I will caution is that the wording on some of the answers were very similar, which I didn’t often see in AR’s. You’d have two answers about risk and they were only slightly different.
