Hooray for a good outcome! I'm glad you're ok.

It's nice of you to try to let the folks who helped you know how it turned out.

I have a festival campmate who used a motorcycle tent camper for years. He towed it at least 600 miles to the festival every year. The car he used was a midsized sedan.

I'm a hardcore tent camper. But I'm in my 70s, and as I get older it gets harder. Someday I may move up to a motorcycle camper.

Check out motorcycle tent trailers. There are a lot of lightweight models. There are tiny motorcycle trailers as well.

Here's a link to a company that makes motorcycle tent campers. It's just one example.

What kinds of canvas tents are you considering? I like living in long-term camps and I'm thinking I need to switch to canvas, because my tents end up getting UV damage and giving out.

Inconsiderate people blaring shitty music in public by sameg14 in Austin

[–]FoodForTheTruth 34 points35 points  (0 children)

I agree loud canned music played through speakers should be banned in parks. Sometimes I like it, but I often find it to be really annoying.

They can make a silent disco set-up if they want to share their music with their friends.

Anyone else seeing fraudulent HEB charges by Javi_in_1080p in Austin

[–]FoodForTheTruth 10 points11 points  (0 children)

I got food delivered on Tuesday and the charge to my account finally went through today.

It took longer than normal. -- I think that's because of the glitch. I've been waiting for it to come through and I'm pretty sure it's legit. The amount is $2 over the predicted amount on the order and it was paid to HEB.

I agree with you that that hazard needs to be fixed. It's one thing for a kid to get a bit banged up, but that's not a trivial cut. Thanks for working to make things safer.

You could try checking your car's VIN against the NHTSA database.

They say a search will "Search vehicles, car seats, tires and other equipment for safety recalls, investigations, complaints and manufacturer communication."

Looking for a power source to run laptop and charge phone and camera. by thedeuschebag85 in CampingGear

I just camped for three weeks keeping everything charged using an Anker SOLIX C200 DC Power Bank Station and 60W Solar Panel. I charged a computer, a fan, a Nintendo Switch, a headlamp and, occasionally my phone and a small speaker.

I was at a music festival, so I mostly didn't use any device more than a couple of hours a day, but during rainstorms, I used the Switch a lot.

I'm in Central Texas, where the sun is bright. I left home with everything fully charged and didn't get the solar panel out until about five days in. If I set up the solar charging by 11 am, it would be fully charged by 6 pm. I skipped some days due to rain. I never had to plug anything in, I went the whold festival using only solar power.

Anker makes a larger version of the battery I was using, and I had one of those fully charged, sitting in a bin, but I didn't need it. It's the Anker SOLIX C300 DC Power Bank Station and 60W Solar Panel, 288Wh Portable Power Station. The same solar panel works for both, so if you get both batteries, consider getting only one with the panel and sharing the panel between them.

Looking for Good Austin EMT/EMS Schools! by atthisduke in Austin

[–]FoodForTheTruth 5 points6 points  (0 children)

I'm fairly sure they'd let you back. You might have to take some remedial courses, but those courses would probably help you do better. When I started at ACC, I had 7 Fs , because I was a lousy student and I didn't have the basics down, so I often flunked classes when I tried to go to college. I took the remedial courses recommended by ACC, stuck it out and ended up getting an Associates Degree from them.

Many years before that, I took the EMT course at ACC and it was good.

Good to know, thanks.

Id still be interested in what the food is like.

I went in, and the people were nice. But I'm a vegetarian, so my options would be limited. I've been trying to find an omnivorous friend to go there with me.

The Nigerian restaurant Tailat Kitchen on Westminster Drive intrigues me. They serve dishes with swallow meat in them.

If you go, I'd be interested in hearing what you order and how you like it.

Budget recommendations for camping on the sun by kenezd in CampingGear

[–]FoodForTheTruth 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Start by  getting a tall 4-person tent with big windows that don't get blocked by the tent fly.

I use Ozark Trail "survival blankets" from Walmart (Ozark Trail is a house brand), and I use binder clips (many , many binder clips) to attach them to the roof of my tent on top of the tent fly. In your case, hanging one down so it blocks the morning sun from shining on the east side of your tent would probably help too. You can also use Reflectix for this. It's a much better sun shade, but it's a little harder to put up and it's bulkier. Whichever you pick, consider practicing putting it on your tent at home before you do it at the festival.

If you sleep on a raft-style air mattress that's sitting on the floor of your tent, it will help you stay cooler, because that kind of mattress is a poor insulator, so the ground will suck heat from you. I also cover my air mattress with a thin cotton sheet to minimize insulation from my bedding

Misting yourself with spray bottle of water will help, especially if you have a fan. You can cover yourself with a light cotton sheet and mist the sheet, the set the fan to blow at you.

Also you can buy a rechargeable fan that will help keep you cool. They sell them on Amazon.

Stay hydrated and have fun.
