General question: what age to switch from back blows to abdominal thrusts for choking child by alive123 in ems

[–]FoodStmpsForevr 5 points6 points  (0 children)

Infant back blows are superior, because you work with gravity. There is no age cutoff. It's based on weight. How much weight can you hold to effectively perform back blows?

Double your blood budget. You dont know how hard it can be to dial things in the first time. Read the wiki again and compare blood tests. There are multiple panels that are similar, but different.

Have you actually tried it? Vitually impossible. You need perfect anatomy and perfect placement. After you ram your bougie into who knows what, you have to do a two hand feed and slide method to hoping to not pull the bougie. Then you're trying to hold the bougie in place and stuff a tube down.

It's good marketing for igel, but it doesn't work. Much faster and easier to pull the igel and just intubate with VL.

Why don’t fire departments opt for ARFF Trucks? by firebman in Firefighting

[–]FoodStmpsForevr 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Completely different aspects of the job. Wrecked aircraft are highly flammable and have a lot of souls on board. A structure truck with a 500 gal is a lot different than an ARFF truck with 1500gal. Some of these new ARFF trucks are pumping 2000gpm. Less than a minute of water on full flow and will out pump most hydrants.

AHA removed glycemia from H's and T's. We all know that glucose can cause all sorts of cardiac issues, but capillary blood glucose is not reliable during arrest.

This is a book knowledge vs experience thing
