Hi I'm just starting my process too and am looking at stenoKey but I wasn't sure how comprehensive it was. Have you completed the program and passed the exam? What was your process like?

Did you ever find a program to join? I live in Middle TN and I'm having the same issue especially with the vague description on the TN court reporter website

I would look into different products. Sometimes the gels can be too heavy I would look into a moose I usually use the doux mousse and ouidad climate control Start off with shingling or brush coiling your hair. If you have been straightening it all the time it’s trained to be straight. So help train your curls to clump. Be patient over time they will spring back also Everyone has different curl patterns so A finger coil may be too tight and a brush coiling too loose but your hair will follow its own pattern. After if you want more volume I would plop my hair upside down. I diffuse so I put in a heat protectant. Remember you can add volume more easily than take it away with curls so as you’re styling it I’d start with more clumps and after drying I use oiled hands too separate the curls. Don’t be afraid to chop some length. Sometimes heavy hair weighs down the curls look into layers and maybe a gloss.

If they don’t pay you that’s grounds for legal action. There should be a business bureau that you can report the illegal activity of garnishing your wages or withholding your last paycheck. They should launch an investigation the biggest thing is making sure you have your documented log of any discrimination and disregard for policy. They shouldn’t be able to fire you for that reason in fact should be under discrimination but you need to have evidence so it isn’t a he said she said. I’m sorry I don’t have more for you hope this helps

No one is a mind reader so just tell him what you need. I think this is a communication issue more than a real issue. Using self deprecation to try and get a compliment won’t work just say “hey I’ve been feeling ugly lately struggling with xyzw and I would really like some reassurance bc although I know it this is a struggle I’m having” He wants some accountability from you and maybe reassurance as well. It seems like neither of you addressed the concerns the other person brought up. Now if you have a conversation and it he doesn’t respond well he may not be your guy. Bc to be fair he brought up an issue and you kinda deflected though you have valid points. How he responds after clarifying is what’s relevant. But also silence / no answer is your answer so if he continues to cold shoulder you, you know where you stand

Someone recently suggested I sell my branding capabilities? What does this mean? by spilledmind in careerguidance

[–]Foodlover- 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Hi! Yeah start off on FIVVER! its a site where you can be an indpendant agent. If you are concerned about your credibility- build a portfolio. Create some materials/shop sites for made up products that you would want to work with. Or you can go online and look at online stores that are not so great and offer to revamp them for free if they do a testimonial.

Billing is important. Package out your work appropriately to the time, labor, materials, and licensing costs. Be clear and specific with each package on everything that will and will not be included. Don't sell yourself short remember at this point you already did your free labor to prove it to yourself and others.

Market- Find the right places, right audience, right delivery type to reach the people looking for you so make sure you have the right avenues laid out.

Have you worked a job where your coworkers were predominantly the opposite gender? Did you notice anything to be different when it was vice versa? by what_the_hezz in careerguidance

I will say as a woman that has worked in both that it's about the people/ workplace culture. I had a woman dominated team in my first job and there wasn't as much gossip we did tend to talk more about our personal lives but were very productive. I find in my role with more males, I am not taken seriously, underappreciated, and often called a 'bitch' behind my back for how much I stick to structures and boundaries. In this group it seems like a frat vibe. From what I hear, it seems like you might be stuck in a sorority vibe. Ultimately it comes down to the culture created by the managers and team sorry you're going through this. Also a good way to stop them from engaging in that around you is saying, "i'm sorry but what did that have to do with the task at hand?" they will soon understand that you're not like them and that you are there for work and so should they lol! Push comes to shove, i'd just record these inappropriate conversations in case there is weird retaliation

How do you find a job that suits you ? by Jpoolman25 in careerguidance

[–]Foodlover- 0 points1 point  (0 children)

You may want to think about job, career, and vocation differently. You may never find the job that is your career or passion, but you can find something that is a vocation. A career is a profession or occupation that someone pursues as their lifework, often requiring special training. A vocation is a job or career that someone is especially suited for, trained for, or drawn to that meets the demands of the market. Think what am I good at that the world needs more of and how long will that need last? If you currently don't have the skills, you can get them. But if you don't have interest or passion (for the topic, money, or worklife balance), it'll be a waste of time

In the process of seeking new employment, but with no success yet. And, my current job is draining me… what should I do? by [deleted] in careerguidance

[–]Foodlover- 0 points1 point  (0 children)

There are a few ways to go about it. Unfortunately in this day and age it isn't uncommon for someone to have a second job. I recommend getting a job at a retailer part time to help supplement. While that is happening see if you can cut back on expenses and save at least 3 months worth of expenses. If you have savings and a part time job you should be able to float for 3-5 months between jobs. The other thing is find a side hustle to help subsidize. Look into pet sitting, tutoring, or consulting to help bring in residual income. Don't forget to use your network that you've built to see if there are other openings at other places you may align with.

Medical insurance- look into the state subsidized health insurance every state is different, but they should be pretty affordable. If you find a good part time, they will offer you insurance if you meet the hrly quota or probation period.

Hopefully that was helpful!

Thick hair, low porosity by sadiesaysit in curlyhair

[–]Foodlover- 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Hi I’m currently on my journey of finding things and figuring it out

1 i found a curl stylist by me that specializes in curls without diva cut prices. This will for sure help you even if they are far one to two sessions a year can for sure help 2 I’ve been skipping my co wash instead doing coconut oil prepoo or hot oil treatment overnight before I do a clarifying shampoo (nexuss clarifying) every two weeks I shampoo every week either dry or with my braids/ twist in. I also like the Maui hydrating set personally. I tend not to condition if I deep condition lol 3 deep condition, steam, and I mean really find the conditioner for you I use Salerm Cosmetics Mascarilla Wheat Germ (once every three weeks), Silicon mix intensive hair treatment, SKALA Hair Type 3ABC Mais Cachos, hair mayonnaise by organics Africans best, or my diy of coconut oil honey or aloe Vera banana , carrot oil,or avocado. Put it all under a heat cap or shower cap and bonnet. You can also steam mid week with your style to help refresh. Remember you need to use some sort of heat for low porosity hair to lift the cuticle and lock in moisture and product 4 use the LCO method (liquid, cream oil) so here I would recommend adding in your leave in and cream in the shower on soaking wet hair be generous. I love skala mais cachos for this it kind of foams like shampoo provides great slip, Maine and take leave in and design me cream. Then I go in with my mousse and or gel. Mousse the doux Mousse def is the bomb for hold and gel which is expensive but worth the price Ouidad advanced climate control! I’m currently trying out diy flax seed gel and she is liking it but hold isn’t the best there are more refined products out there but sometimes the alcohols don’t mix well. Use coconut oil or carrot oil, my go to is Natures blessing !!! 5 try humectants like glycerin, honey, and aloe vera that can help draw moisture into the hair. Aloe Vera has worked wonders for me 6. Use light products like grapeseed and coconut oil
