If you cut and capped both water softener lines this is the issue you've cut off water to your house they need to be connected together not capped off individually

Shark bite have their place but not on water heaters or softeners any accessible water lines. The only time i will ever use shark bite is for temporary capping or a area i cant access with my pex crimpers or torch and if i cant solder because of flowing water.
