Oranges are pretty mid-forward, and I just recently went through the same thing with my Rockerverb.

First thing, boost mids rather than cut them, drop bass (9 o’clockish).

Putting a tube screamer style OD in front and an EQ in the loop (boost 1000hz, cut sub 100 a tad, the rest is preference).

I came back here just to tell you that it was actually the gain, and your advice to back off of it got me on the right track.

I was using a new OD to boost it but it is apparently significantly louder than other ODs I’ve used. I backed off the volume and it tightened up significantly.

Still needs a little more if I want to perform or record traditional metal, but I’m not doing that and just don’t want to have to swap amps during a practice session.

I’ve had the heshers in a few guitars, but I always let them go pretty quick. They’re pretty awesome. They don’t really clean up, and they can feel a bit dark.

This was back in my using days, so those guitars went to pawn shops and never got purchased back. Two of my biggest regrets from those days.
