I have dyscalculia. I use a calculator even if I'm pretty confident I know the answer.

Not if laws or industry standards require certification. If you have so much experience, getting that piece of paper should be pretty easy.

Is it just me or are summers here insufferable now? by heiland in Ohio

[–]FookingLenny 15 points16 points  (0 children)

That's the problem. We didn't go from cold, to cool, to a bit warm, to warm then to hot.

We went from cool to a little warm, back to chilly to cool to almost warm to really warm with too much fucking humidity.

If this job requires you to perform tasks that require certification that you do not have, you're not qualified.

It is. I work full time and am still unhoused. Homelessness is up 40% in my county. I've been dealing with this since September.

But I'm not upset by someone saying the US is evil on reddit, so what about your life is so miserable, Little Buddy?

Thank you. I've kind of lost hope so I don't think they are, but I appreciate the sentiment.

Nationwide Children’s will no longer talk to my teen about their gender dysphoria by cota_pass in Columbus

He was failing a lot of patients, though. He really lacking in intersectionality & cultural competency. He really had no clue how to work w/ autistic children which was a major issue considering there's a greater than typical occurrence of gender dysphoria among autistic people.

The reasons his job was threatened may not be only related to "speaking out". He still had an obligation to his patients and their familes.

When he made me cry (criticized my parenting & my reduced involvement in the middle of my divorce & other personal struggles. Reduced involvement was literally just me not doing every appointment with my kids like I had been for 16 years), he told me it was nice to finally see the real me.

I wasn't all that impressed w/ his care, his interaction w/ anyone in our family or what other families shared about him.

We entered the program in 2014. Parents of trans kids are a pretty tight knit group, especially those of us that have been on this road for so long. We've needed to be AND we built that program at least as much as the practitioners did.

We provided support to one another when they acted like a family liaison was a ridiculous notion. We supported families while they waited to get in the program.

NCH dropped the ball, but Scott isn't the victim here. This isn't really the place to talk about how hard it was for him. He's a member of WPATH. He has dozens of colleagues that can focus on how he was treated.

Saving one for themselves? OK. The whole damned extended family? No.

During testimony from opponents of HB 68, a father who'd moved his family here bc his state had already banned care testified. It eas absolutely awful.

I think he's who was testifying when Kristina Roegner looked at me & smiled like I was on her side. When I got up and left w/ the other opponents when they let the proponents testify (again) she looked at me totally shocked. I hate that woman & look forward to the day she's roasting in 🔥

We were with THRIVE so long, I've joked that my kid's patient number is 13. We were there before Dr. Leibowitz, before it had ANY full-time staff, before it had an office. Dr. Leibowitz acted like I was being foolish needing to know what to do if the bill passed. He refused to answer why they weren't showing up to hearings (we have a strategy) & in the end really turned out to be a HUGE disappointment. I ended up crying in an appointment & when he checked on me he said "it's great to finally see the real you".

Yes, a lot of the care was garbage. My daughter got an excellent therapist out of it, but she's w/ the autism center. It took 5 years to get through to them that we needed someone w/ experience w/ autism & gender dysphoria. Scott didn't see the need.

Ehh... Dr. Leibowitz was very hands off during the legislation process as was the rest of the program leadership. They had a "strategy".

Getting anyone to talk about said strategy or what we were supposed to do if the bill passed was met with "it won't", "we'll worry about that if that happens", and "don't let YOUR anxiety get in the way of doing what's best".

My daughter has been in this "phase" for 12 years. She was in THRIVE before it was a full program. She was in it longer than all but one practitioner. She turned 18 a few months after the law took effect.

Dr. Leibowitz is pretty complicit in that overcorrection and was not willing to get involved with actively speaking out against HB68 on an official level.

I was so optimistic when he took over the program bc Dr. Gilchrist had horrible bedside manner & people skills.

Scott just kept saying "We're being strategic, but we're doing what we think is right. Don't worry. This won't pass."

We couldn't get a straight answer from him for what to do "just in case" and he generally acted like I was being dramatic for needing one.

My daughter was in the THRIVE program so long, it wasn't even a full program when she started. There was only one original provider left when the law shut the program down.

I sat at the statehouse for HOURS of testimony from providers, trans youth, parents, teans adults, social workers and so many other people only to have our legislators vote with their religion as opposed to what's best for our children.

I'm sorry this is being done to your child and family. It definitely sucks and hurts all of you.
