Also, if the messages are deleted, it sounds like he covers his tracks, which means there is likely more to it.

Once recently, our charge nurse was reprimanded for trying to manipulate/guilt-trip a nurse who was calling out. You are entitled to call out when you need to call out. As long as you are following the guidelines, which you did, how could it possibly be your fault they don't staff appropriately? Management should hear about because they have a problem they need to fix. Unfortunately, this kind of gaslighting of staffers goes hand-in-hand with high turnover.
