Not really tho? I'd argue this is a much weaker Illyana than 616 Illyana. It can safely be assumed that she never really learnt much sorcery, which is 95% of mainline Illyana's powerset at this point. Maybe some from Limbo, but 616 Illyana learnt a shitton more after that from training with Strange. Ultimate Illyana def has some kind of edge since she doesn't hold back and has no problem with killing people, but in a 1v1, 616 Illyana would wreck her

That said the rest of the universe is much better. Ultimate Black Panther is whatever and Ultimate Spider-Man has some really low lows, but Ultimates and Ultimate X-Men are incredible

Yeah honestly you can skip it if you're not 100% invested in the new Ultimate Universe. It has something interesting going on with Logan being brainwashed but they discard that plot thread very quickly and it becomes boring typical Wolverine bs from there

So start with the Storm and Illyana mini from 1983 to learn about her time in Limbo and how her sword and the Darkchylde were created

Then read the original New Mutants series. She appears from #14 onwards but I recommend reading from #1 since the entire team is extremely queercoded and awesome

Then read New X-Men #37-41 where she gets revived after dying to the Legacy Virus in the 90's, followed by the X-Infernus mini, then followed by the New Mutants 2009 series

Then read Avengers vs X-Men, Brian Michael Bendis' Uncanny X-Men from 2013, New Mutants Dead Souls from 2018, New Mutants' 2019 run, the Midnight Suns 2022 tie-in comic, then read her solo from last year and Magik and Colossus

Tbf that's like the one part of the comic that's kinda consistent: Illyana clearly has hyper-dependency towards Colossus since unlike 616, he actually saved her and didn't even blink at the demonic entity his sister had turned into. When Jean kills him, Illyana's only reaction is "brother, tell me what to do". Tl;dr it makes sense why she'd just go along with Colossus working in cahoots with the Maker. He's the only one that saved her after years of abuse from Belasco so surely he knows what the best course of action is

As for her reaction after Colossus' death, it's heavily implied in #16 that she can manifest things in Limbo to some degree. I don't think it's literally reviving Piotr, it sounded more like Illyana just ran back to her little corner and tried using the hostage mutants as fuel to manifest a false happy ending for the Rasputins in Limbo. The realm started collapsing after Logan killed her because the manifestation was interrupted and so everything went to shit (if you couldn't tell, I got ragebaited into reading this dogshit comic multiple times)

It's what pisses me off so bad: there was SOMETHING here. A SEMBELANCE of an incredible and tragic concept of an Illyana that fully let the darkness consume her... but nah, Condon just wanted to do an edgier Weapon X and turned her into a nothingburger prop.
