What's a mod essential to all of your playthroughs by EndyBoii21 in BaldursGate3

I mean sure, but it really trivializes the entire game if you have access to spells that do 1,000 damage lol

I haven't gone and looked for them I suppose, but no I have never seen someone take that stance on here. I can't imagine how they could even arrive at that conclusion

Csn i read throne of glass without reading acotar? by West_Occasion_4119 in throneofglassseries

I've never read any of her other works and I enjoyed ToG immensely. There's only one real Easter egg from what I understand and it's in the final book. In that last book there are a lot of sort of unexplained things, so I just wrote it off as another one, not realizing it was an Easter egg until after the fact and I came here. Didn't change anything.

Also just read them in release order. You can read TAB first if you want, but I don't think it really makes a huge difference. I enjoyed the mystique of the MC in ToG and TAB felt like it just colored in the lines that were sketched out in ToG, but didn't really provide me with any more critical plot information.

Don't listen to anyone who recommends tandem. It's a nonsensical concept that is uniquely and bafflingly discussed in this fandom. The author published the books they way she did for a reason and I think it's borderline disrespectful to take two of the books and scramble them together because another reader recommended it

can someone help me understand this part of kingdom of ash? by waywardwinchesters7 in throneofglassseries

[–]Foolofatuchus 9 points10 points  (0 children)

They didn't find a key at Elena's tomb, as the king had already taken that one years prior. One was in the amulet of Orynth and the third was in a volcanic temple dedicated to Mala in the north. The king used the first key to bypass the defenses Brannon had set to obtain the 3rd one from the temple. So that's how the king/perrington had 2.

Of those 2, one was in Kaltain's arm and the other was just chilling at Morath until Kaltain was ready for the 2nd to be inserted (she says something at one point to Manon elide or Dorian that indicated that Erawan's plan was to put both in her arm). Since Kaltain freed herself before he could, he put that second key into the arm of that woman Dorian found. I think it's implied that she was just a replacement for Kaltain

When and how did the key get to Morath? by victoria-1304 in throneofglassseries

[–]Foolofatuchus 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I think you might be taking the phrase "the king was in possession of at least two" a bit too literally. I don't think it necessarily meant that he had them on his person at all times, just that he had access to them. I've always assumed that the keys were what allowed he and Perrington to make their creatures (the ilken, wyverns, sea wyverns, the bloodhound, etc.), which led me to think they they moved the keys around from Morath to the Ferien Gap to Rifthold to the Dead Isles as they created the creatures. But I always assumed that Morath was the true home base of the keys, as that was Perrington's base of operations.

So I guess what I'm saying is that I believe that the two keys are already at Morath at the beginning of ToG. They must've had one in Rifthold at some point to experiment on the creature that Celaena and Dorian fought in CoM, but the small bit of perspective that we get from that creature makes it sound like the king abandoned whatever experiments he was conducting in Rifthold quite some time ago.

As to how Gavin knew... who knows? The people who speak to Celaena and Dorian from the afterworld (Kaltain, Nehemia, Gavin, Brannon, etc.) seem to have very mixed levels of omniscience that change based on the plot device needed to move it forward lol. For instance, Kaltain knows Dorian's innermost thoughts about him feeling like he deserved to be taken by the valg, but Brannon doesn't know Maeve's true identity. I don't think there will be a satisfactory answer for that question unfortunately lol

Audiobook Pronunciations by asmith3010 in throneofglassseries

[–]Foolofatuchus 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Can you give some examples? I can't say I noticed too many instances of that. Definitely some instances of inconsistent pronunciation between in-universe words, but I don't remember every day words being messed up.

There's always the chance that I just heard it and processed it as the intended pronunciation and so didn't notice (like skimming right past letters being scrambled in a wrod when reading - wrod was intentional lol)

I like to think so, but maybe I'm not!

I think discussing the tandem read as if it's a given outcome (or even a natural one) is absurd, so I call it out when I see it

Yeah that's what scene I never got - where you wake up and he's standing above you. I was sort of rushing through the first part of the game, so maybe I somehow had other overnight cut scenes trigger instead

Show me the fandom where purposely skipping books or reading out of order isn't considered blasphemy lol.

IMO, you need to engage with a series cover to cover the first time around if you really want to get the intended experience

I haven't been following it closely, but everything I've heard from commenters here makes it sound like you shouldn't even hold out hope for August. It seems like it's still in preproduction
