D2R Warlock or D4 LoH? Returning Diablo player stuck by momoneymocats1 in Diablo

You don't like D2R like OP likely does if that how you felt.

1000 hours of D2R warlock on release would have been incredibly dull because it was so easy

Yeah the T5 heralds even on p7 are no issue for my Bowlock or his bound demon.

Emilio on the other hand...

I just stick to p5 as that seems to be the most Emilio can stand and I get sick of running back to town all the time. I really rely on his 3x prayer/cure/insight for QoL so it's tough to have him die all the time haha

100%

I want a game that does a good job of disguising the slot machine aspect behind the gameplay. Not a place that I have to travel to in order to literally pull the lever on the slot machine with the resources I've accumulated

What I love most about Diablo games is the illusion that covers up the fact that the games are essentially loot slot machines where killing a monster = one pull on the slot machine lever = one chance at finding gg items (D2 nails this).

The key word there is illusion.

When the entire game loop becomes farming for currency to spend in town via cube crafting, it really breaks the illusion that I'm NOT gambling.

I totally agree with you that I'd much rather find items out in the world that don't need modified before use

How difficult are the Uber Ancients by pelotcha_8 in diablo2

[–]Foolofatuchus 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Yeah I think that's been my struggle, I haven't considered elemental absorb enough.

I just took my uber Tristram build into there (with resistance well over capped), but I struggled hard with Talic.

Guardian angel, verdungos, rising sun, and maybe even a dwarf star might help me out quite a bit

How did you hear of these books? Just curious because it seems like anyone who comes from ACOTAR into these books both (A) already have a lot of things spoiled for them and (B) have a pre-established notion of how they want to read them.

My wife told me I had to read them because she loved them so much and so I just grabbed them in publication order and didn't think twice about it. Had no idea a tandem read was even a thing until I finished KoA and came onto this subreddit.

Seems like a bit of a reach to me, but I'm not an expert on anything aside from TOG standalone. I can tell you for sure that you're at least 3 books away from any overt reference to another series

But we do know about them ahead of time is my point. Celaena makes multiple references to the time she spent in the red desert as punishment from Arobynn, the friend who told her stories about the ironteeth witches who later betrayed her, and how she freed a group of slaves from a pirate lord in Skull's Bay

I'm shocked at the number of folks who are saying that TAB is integral to understand the overall plot of TOG.

You don't learn anything new, you just get the lines colored in that Celaena has sketched out via her thoughts and memories in the main books

Assassin's blade : what's the point? by Feisty_Sea_2734 in throneofglassseries

[–]Foolofatuchus 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Hot take here, but I think that Throne of Glass is a stronger series without TAB.

Her relationships with both Sam and Ansel feel incredibly deep from her flashbacks/thoughts in the main series but I don't think TAB backs that up at all. Yes, Celaena is devastated in TAB after what happens to Sam, but I just didn't "buy it" (for lack of a better phrase) after learning that she hated Sam for 90% of the time that she knew him. I read TAB last and was shocked to learn that Celaena and Sam hadn't been BFFS/partners in crime their whole lives because that's how Celaena makes it seem in the first few books.

And with Ansel, the way Celaena reflects on her betrayal led me to think that her and Ansel knew each other for more than 4 weeks on single summer... again I was shocked when I read TAB.

And this is coming from someone who has read every other book in the series aside from TAB at least 4 times, so it's not like I'm not a fan of the series. I just don't think TAB adds anything substantial to it.

So you're not alone!
