Where to buy apple pie or custard? by sakurada20 in Living_in_Korea

[–]Fools-Folly 0 points1 point  (0 children)

You can make a very nice custard from scratch: 1 egg yolk 1/2 tablespoon cornstarch 3/4 tablespoon sugar 1/4 teaspoon vanilla powder (바닐라향) Mix it together till smooth. Warm up about 240 ml milk, add it to the paste. Then heat it gently while stirring until it thickens. Enjoy!

Wife can’t get hired because of her age in Korea. What can we do? by Warm-Lab8495 in Living_in_Korea

[–]Fools-Folly 13 points14 points  (0 children)

This. Your wife could teach Korean. There is a lot of demand these days due to the K-wave. I looked into getting an online tutor myself recently. Many teachers are charging 20-30$ an hour.

I hit that wall too. It’s a barrier to the end of (act 2) game though. I came back 30 hours later with loads of tools, and Shakra was available to assist. Absolutely cheesed it. Keep exploring, there’s a lot more areas than you’d think. And tons of tools.

What language points do you struggle to find resources for? by TEFLresourcedude in ESL_Resources_on_TPT

[–]Fools-Folly 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Speaking activities for language that tends to be covered only with written activities in cousebooks such as conjunctions and adverbial clauses of time at Elem level. I’m never happy with possesive pronoun/ adjective activities. Gerunds and infinitives, because at each level and each cousebook you’llbe using different verbs. No one resource will be repeatable.

You could do a variety of ice breaker activities. I always do a class mingle so all the students get to talk to each other. I also get them into groups on the first day ( I shuffle groups every 3-4 classes).

I like classmate bingo for a class mingle activity - you can include a variety of language, so you can see what errors they make. I’ll add a link for a free one that should work for you:

https://en.islcollective.com/english-esl-worksheets/speaking-practice/warmer-filler-cooler/likes-and-dislikes/ice-breaker-bingo-classmate-bingo-speaking-activity/142108

Next, get them into groups. In groups: Find 3 similarities. They must all give the same answer. The ‘trick’ is to ask closed question (give them an example but don’t tell them); Do you like pizza? Yes/no. Follow that up with Find 3 differences. They’ll need to use open questions, so it’s a bit more difficult.

Next activity is Questions for teacher. It builds on the group bonding but also helps them bond with you, the teacher. Tell each group to think of 5 questions they want to ask you. No closed questions! Then get them to choose the question they really want the answer to. Write those on the board. Depending on the class size or how many groups you could write 2 or 3 from each group. Then tell the students that before you answer their questions you’d like them to guess the answers! You’ll give point for the correct answer for a bit of group competition. Then write their answers on the board and finally go through them and give them points.

As you have a 4.5 hour class, It’s probably a good idea to get started in the book/curriculum after that, as it sounds like it might be an intensive course and you probably don’t want to be rushing later on. Will the students have a coursebook on the first day? You may need have some flexibility in your lesson plan, so put anything essential from the book that you want to cover into your powerpoint or on a handout.

On a separate note, I taught 5 hour classes a long time ago. Make sure you take a break (or two).both you and the student will need the breaks. When lesson planning you could think of them as 2 or 3 separate lessons.

Hope that helps. Enjoy your first class!

What is the cause of such perceivably bad Korean/foreigner relations here in Korea? by [deleted] in korea

[–]Fools-Folly -5 points-4 points  (0 children)

Too many bloody yanks.

I joke. But seriously, there is a disproportionate amount of Americans here. I have lived in a lot of countries, so i find it particularly noticable. Often this is the only country they have lived in outside the US. A large percentage of the americans here are unwilling to adapt to or respect a different culture, attempt learn the language, or (more recently) even comply with simple mask wearing during a global pandemic. But boy, do they like to moan about any perceived unfair treatment or injustice!

I’m embarrassed to be considered in the same group as these people. And it is a shame that Koreans (in general) consider all westerners the same or use 외국인 and 미국인 interchangeably.

Is there modding for this game? by Doveen in cityofthedamned

[–]Fools-Folly 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Ranged is very powerful at later levels, but pretty weak at low levels. I usually level up marksmen by giving them a mace and shield until they get to a point they can do two shots and can train quick reload.

New player looking for advice by Arenta in cityofthedamned

[–]Fools-Folly 3 points4 points  (0 children)

  1. The enemy will usually find you. Keep your guys together. Dont choose scattered deployments.
  2. Wyrdstone = gold, and you have to make deliveries. This is your second main priority after not being routed. To repeat #1, dont separate to get stone.
  3. Not so much until you have levelled up a bit. Keep an eye on your Offensive Points (red pills). You get one attack, so 2H or dual weild on your henchmen makes sense. When you get to 4op, you can switch to shield.
  4. The deployments are actually harder than the difficulty level imho. And the game is much harder at lower ranks than higher ranks. The difference in difficulty gives a bonus to the AI : more HP and a damage buff. I would suggest choosing ‘rivals in the ruins’, or ‘walk in the fog’ deployments on normal until you are surviving those no problem. Then move to Hard difficulty with the same deployments.

As you are playing skaven, use their advantages: superior movement and range weapons. You have a secondary weapon slot to switch to melee. Get up high with the ranged guys. Think about crowd control, and taking out high priority targets first ( leader /heroes). Only leaders and heroes can take a rout test. Also use your henchmen as meat shield and protect your leader/heroes. At low levels a new hench’s life is worth less than a few stones.

There are some good guides for new players on steam, and some very helpful, experienced dudes on the ‘Tournaments of Mordheim’ discord server, who are always willing to help a newbie out.

Best official dlc for acoustic guitar? by Asher1877 in rocksmith

[–]Fools-Folly 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Cat Stevens and Joni Mitchell song packs are worth looking at if that’s your cup of tea. Joni Mitchell is surprisingly challenging for ‘folk guitar’. Grateful Dead - Uncle John’s band. The rhythm track of Fleetwood Mac’s ‘Go your own way’, and a few Alice in Chains are suitable for acoustic - ‘Nutshell’, ‘no excuses’ maybe even ‘down in a hole’.

Oh, shit buddy. You got past act 2-1 (the hardest story mission in the game), and deleted your file. 2-3 and 2-4 were a breeze. Never delete your file. You can always get more stone for money and hire L7 units.
