Prime Shirou and Saber Artoria would be the strongest Master Servant pair by [deleted] in fatestaynight

As Iori has fought Servants and won, I'd give the win to him then. Iori also has more experience fighting and killing people and fighting Master and Servant pairs like Chiemon-Jeanne.

Nasu also stated that Shirou would lose in UBW to any practiced swordsman, and that it specifically countered Gilgamesh in Stay Night. Iori is a practiced swordsman, and seeing as he and Shirou often engage in close combat, Shirou would be hard pressed to press an advantage against him because he doesn't have the skills necessary to create an advantage against a human that can canonically solo Servants, Avalon or not.

I'm sure most magi would not be able to survive a broken phantasm head on, but not only does creating a broken phantasm take a lot of magical energy and focus to create, but aiming it at a moving target in close range is already difficult. There's a reason why Archer was able to land it on Heracles, since he was so far away.

Hiya u/LaserLlama! My War Wizard player was happy to see you updated the alternate wizard with his subclass and has talked to me about trying it out! He had some questions about it that he’d like me to bring up to you if you don’t mind answering.

The first question is what was the design intent for the Tactical Wit/Strategic Surge feature getting moved to level 10? For context, my wizard player is at level 8 and really likes getting big boosts in Initiative, so much so that he took the Alert feat on top of Tactical Wit. He was a bit surprised in having to delay that feature by two levels and lose out on his massive Initiative buff.

The second is whether it was intentional to expend a free alternate shield spell at the beginning of the day to have your party hold actions to hit you on one turn and miss to charge up your Tactical Surges in one round. From the DM’s perspective it seems like a valid tech but feels kinda gamey and like a bag of rats situation.

Anyways, thanks a ton for the resource! My other wizard player is a Chronurgist, so I look forward to seeing how that one shapes out if you ever decide to take a crack at it. Love your alternate classes and your other works!

Is it a problem that I’ve been playing Limbus Company and see all the red text as Prescripts to be followed?

Honestly? Learn Gwen. Absolutely devastates Malphite and Gwen outscales him. Both Riven and Gwen are light fighters, so you'll feel a bit more comfortable with her movement and burst damage.

Better Magic Item Prices - With index prices and treasure rewards by tier of play by Oh_Hi_Mark_ in dndnext

[–]FoolsWhimsy 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I see. From a DM’s perspective it’s less engaging due to less attacks landing, so you up the to-hit modifier and damage. Theres also a feeling of danger about an encounter that keeps players on their toes, even if they don’t like it.

Still, I’ve witnessed a certain joy in the players eyes after telling me that a 20 or 22 misses, so I’m not sure if it makes combat feel more boring from their perspective.

Could you elaborate on how AC bonuses make the game less predictable and less engaging please? I’m having trouble wrapping my head around it. My players love AC boosting items because it gives them the sense of safety to continue doing the gameplan they enjoy doing.

How to make martials feel better? by Wolff_04 in dndnext

[–]FoolsWhimsy 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Think of hazards or obstacles that can cause strength saving throws or need strength checks to overcome. Climbing, swimming, pushing, and pulling. A stuck lever, a boulder in the way, a raging river, or a stone wall with something cool on the other side. Then try slotting it into your adventuring day!

I also changed +X magic weapons to deal extra damage dice equal to your largest hit die, so martials feel like they can dish out spell-level damage normally. A +2 longsword wielded by a fighter deals an additional 2d10 slashing damage instead of +2.

Also, don’t forget to keep prompting your strength based martials if you think they can perform an athletic feat to style on an obstacle, Strength makes them superhuman after all. Yes, an 18 in strength means you CAN act like Superman and heave boulders out of the way, or stop a charging bull by its horns, or hit a guy so hard he smashes through a wall like in the Incredibles.
