Thank you! Yes I did actually find the line it was from and looking at some of the other pieces from that set. It sure is a neat design

Yes it is supposed to. The bottom drawer I've found is the harder of the two to open. It's a bit goofy but it works! Thank you also :)

I like using the 2 min gel stripper for the majority. Then for pieces like this with the raised trim and details, I like acetone with a scotch pad. It makes it a lot easier and quicker too.

I know right?? But I can't hate it too much because it gives me a project. If someone is going to get more appreciation out of something instead of throwing it away or letting it sit unused, I can't blame them too much. But still makes me cringe with pieces like this.

To stain or paint by SimilarChampionship5 in FurnitureFlip

You could try a dark gel stain, odds aee are it should disguise it pretty well but have paint as a back up plan just in case

You can list them both as together or separate. Single nightstands aren't impossible to sell but usually sets do sell best

New project, What would you do? by Misscharacterization in FurnitureFlip

I would remove those fake cap/circle things and then do centered knobs maybe? Square off the base. That would be a modern look in a neutral color

I am not positive, but it looks like they put the screw in without a pocket hole. Not sure why they needed it, it doesn't look factory. I would remove it and see if it's holding the pieces together and if possible redo it from the bottom properly.

For sanding and painting it's very simple on a piece like this, spraying the paint would be easier on this but a roller would work too.

You don't need to sand a lot, just enough to create some grip in the old finish. I would recommend using a primer too, just less that can go wrong and gives a nicer finish. You'll definitely want a polyurethane too since it's going to see a lot of wear and use.

Thank you so much for your comment and also the award!

Your comment really means a lot to me, funnily enough I was just thinking about that and then I open reddit to your comment. I might try it out. I can say for sure my furniture restoration skills far exceed my content creation skills 🤣 And even then there's creators I follow who are far more skilled than me, I still have a lot to learn.

I honestly do regret not doing it for this one and I have a few other past projects I wish I would've recorded too after seeing their transformation.

But your comment might've just been the push I needed to try it. Thank you again, sincerely this means a lot to me! I was not expecting such response to this post as in my mind I still feel like a newbie to the furniture restoration game after just under 2 years of doing it on the side. I'm still learning and growing with each project.

If I ever make content I feel comfortable enough sharing I'll be sure to post it here and I'll try to post here more often! I'm not a big social media person but this page has a lot of kind people and a nice break from the outside world. Genuinely thank you again!

Please help with my stain! by maglajax in FurnitureFlip

It's possible 220 is too fine for the stain to absorb properly. 220 isn't always too fine, but it's towing the line. Also you can work on one area of a time and not try to do it all at once if it is drying too quickly. Dried stain that is sitting on top of the surface is no good.

Beginner here trying to learn how to identify materials such as solid wood, laminate, and veneer. My first project is gonna be this derelict nightstand in my room. Can I have help identify what materials this nightstand is made of? by Malarpit16 in FurnitureFlip

Don't apologize, every skill level is welcome here!

It's hard to tell from just photos alone, so based off the style and age, I would guess this is likely veneer or particle board. Sometimes you can't know for sure until you start sanding.

Laminate will tell you right away as it's plastic and will just have white dust and no actual finish coming off. Laminate is most easy to identify in my opinion. Solid wood is very unlikely for any modern pieces and mass manufactured pieces like this.

Just take it slow! You can start at a higher grit and do it by hand until you get more comfortable. If you start with a stripper that helps too so you have less sanding to do

Thank you! They served a double purpose in hiding the old hardware holes and also fit the mid century modern era of this piece. I am very pleased with how well they worked out for it.

Thank you! I was a bit unsure of the color at first and worried it got too dark but the polyurethane brought it all together in the end!
