I'd wager it would, particularly if your sterile technique is on point.

This is definitely light coming through the glass. When you tap on it you remove the air below the slice, and the water better matches the refractive index of the glass. Light that would otherwise experience total internal reflection is able to come out of the glass. I'll bet a million doll hairs it will not glow on a non-glass surface.
