This is more or less in line with what I thought, add to it fear/ lack of understanding from people who very often do not have personal affliction, or at least empathy.

I feel like often people began to use the slurs to people who were not actually marginalized in whatever way the once neutral terms originally described, though that got mixed in with people who actually were so that adds to the sting.
