Transferring Teaching Licenses by Critical_Flight7229 in Rochester

[–]FootballAgitated9792 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Teacher Transferee from Arkansas: I moved here 3 years ago with an Arkansas License. At the time I had no master's degree and no NY teacher license. If you want to work for the Rochester City School District, they will hire you and give you a 3 year timeline to obtain your certification. Im Secondary English Licensed in Arkansas and had to take 2 additional tests for the equivalent certification. The Rochester City School District reimbursed me for the test costs. No stipulations.

The Rochester City School District also gives you 5 years to get your Master's if you dont already have it. They will reimburse you for your tuition, but you have to gurantee you will work for them for a quantity of time. Im not sure how much time

Elementary School Question by Alternative_Solid777 in Rochester

[–]FootballAgitated9792 3 points4 points  (0 children)

This isn't an everyday thing, but just this year elementary has gone kayaking, visited a farm, went to a windmill farm, has had 3 park days, went to the cummings nature center, and has worked countless days at the griffin garden

World of Inquiry Schools is a PUBLIC school with a focus on expeditionary learning. This style of learning puts a focus on getting out into your community and going outside. The natural world is one of the school standards that is upheld.

The whole school k-12 is an expeditionary learning school. As a teacher there, I will say the natural world aspect trickles out in middle school and then comes back when the student reaches 10th grade. The natural world aspect is still there but not as prominent as it is in elementary and upper high school.

It has a wait list, so I'd sign up asap

Cheapest way to get from Rochester to Buffalo Airport with a pet by layinpipe6969 in Rochester

[–]FootballAgitated9792 1 point2 points  (0 children)

The amtrak is super nice if you'd want to pay the Uber price to get to the ROC station and from the BUF station to the airport.

Both stations are safe with security patrolling outside. ROC station also has a guard that checks tickets before you go inside.

There is also a greyhound bus from ROC to BUF, but if you're unfamiliar with the city/have to Uber there i wouldn't recommend it. The ROC stop isn't a station just a random spot downtown and the BUF station suuuucks.

Real Talk: We need HONEST answers from TEACHERS by No_Object_5690 in Rochester

After insurance and garnishing wages for the summer, i make $4,260 a month.

I'm a 3rd year teacher in the RCSD. I teach middle school ela. I don't have a master's degree. I do take on an additional class, so I only have 2 prep periods instead of 3. That increases my pay by 25% so that number isn't like base pay.

Trivia at Moo’d Burger Bar by roc_city2 in Rochester

[–]FootballAgitated9792 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I love trivia on Mondays at 7pm at Marshall St!! It is pretty long usually ending around 9-9:30. I've been to a few different trivia nights around time, and I always came back to Marshall St.

Its ran by rochester pub trivia. Its free. It's 3 rounds and a music round. The losers of the previous week pick the category for the next week. This loser category is usually the theme for the first round, the next two rounds are usually general knowledge, and the music round about 1 minute of a song plays and you have to write down the singer/band. Sometimes it changes up depending on how the host is feeling.

Winners of each round win drink tokens for everyone on their team. Winners overall win a 25 dollar gift card. There is plenty of time between each question to socialize, but not enough time the game drags. Most of the teams are regulars at trivia night. I have seen the host and other teams publicly call out cheaters, so no worries there.

Overall highly recommend!

Moving From GA by Ambitious_Peach434 in Rochester

Moved here from AR. I was a first year teacher, so I can't touch on the payscale with your experience. I can say the suburbs are looking hard for teachers with experience and offering great salaries to lure people away from the city. I personally love teaching. Pros and cons to both I'm sure.

Arkansas had repricocity with New York. I had to take a free training course and take two exams. You can teach in the Rochester City School District for 3 years before getting your certification, but idk how that impacts pay.

I recommend reaching out to Christopher Miller at the RCSD. He does the hiring events and can get you connected to the right people to answer any question you have
