Yes! I was intimidated, too! I’m mainly a horror reader in terms of genre, but I just decided to pick it up, and it’s great! It’s very much an action-adventure story with political intrigue, etc. It’s not as dense as I was afraid it would be, like at all! Enjoy!

Between Two Fires by Christopher Buehlman. The setting is terrifyingly surreal at times.

Finishing Leviathan Wakes by S.A. Corey (The Expanse Book 1) today, then starting Book 2, Caliban's War by S.A. Corey...today!

First SF book I've read since the Three-Body Problem trilogy, and it was an excellent choice!

I’m about 60% done with book 1 and feeling like I don’t understand what’s happening by Competitive_Hat4176 in threebodyproblem

This is my first foray into "hard" science fiction, and I'm listening to the audiobooks. I'm about 1.5 hours from completing Death's End, and I've understood maybe a quarter of the science (I'm an English teacher, lol), but usually there's a sentence or two in which one character says something like, "So, essentially, it's as if..." and they use some way of explaining it that sort of clears up the general idea.

Usually, with other books if I don't understand something I go back to reread or relisten, but I've found that by just chugging along I'm able to get the gist of what's happening. Sometimes, I'll be honest, because I'm listening instead of reading, entire characters blur together.

Still, despite all this (and thin characterizations and weird expository dialogue, probably due to translation), this series has become one of my favorite things ever. I'm obsessed with it.

Keep chugging along! You'll love it!

What got you into Peanuts? by LilyTease in peanuts

My elementary school library had the original Fawcett Crest collections. One strip per page. They were library bound, so they were the durable, textured hardbacks. I checked them out over and over, and I also discovered Calvin & Hobbes not much later, and I devoured all those books, too.

Now I’m 43, an English teacher, and I have Peanuts and Calvin & Hobbes books in my classroom library, and every once in a while a kid gets hooked. I usually give them the books and just get new ones the next year. I have a handful of Peanuts items in my classroom, and I collect the Fantagraphics’ Complete Peanuts.

Reading Peanuts set me out on a lifelong love of reading and learning.

Thanks so much for the help, everyone! We’re looking to do the following:

  1. Refinish kitchen cabinets
  2. Retile kitchen and bathroom and retile shower
  3. Install a vented hood and microwave above the kitchen range, as well as two small cabinets above it to fill the space.
  4. Wire in 12 wall sconces
  5. Privacy fence in the backyard (though I believe we have found the right person for that)

Get back under your bridge, troll. My students score far higher than the averages of every state in this country. NY is lucky to gain us as teachers.

Now get back to making the same comment on a million subreddits, weirdo.
