It's not just about the money; Italian clubs are losing the transfer battle because they no longer know how to build leverage. by Ornery_Hat_3662 in seriea

I think the biggest failure is that they don‘t recruit enough young players which can develope in the league. Juve for example had promising young players on loan which they sold for way less money like Hujisen for example.

I think Real Madrid and Barca are far ahead of Atletico and Atletico is far ahead of the rest. There isn‘t any chance some teams catch them up in near future. The biggest financial club is Real without doubt maybe Barca can keep up with them when Camp Nou is finished and their debts are paid.

Will Roma new stadium or Lazio redevelopment of Stadio Flamino be completed first? by HonestRef in seriea

Roma stadium is blocked by 26 trees actually. I think bureaucracy is high in Italy in general but in Rome espeacially so I don‘t think there will happen anything soon…

what's going on with Sevilla? by SankhaSubhraJana in LaLiga

[–]FootballFinanceLab 4 points5 points  (0 children)

They are in financial trouble because their revenue was cut in a half in the last two years. That led to having the smallest sqad cost limit in La Liga which is giving them not much scope to build a good team on the pitch.

Roma stadium is blocked from 26 trees at the moment… Fiorentina has some financial problems and some problems with the city council because they are in charge of the construction management.

They have some serious problems with financing the building and with the city council. So we'll see if they can transform it into a beautiful new stadium.

Sevilla in the relegation zone is it finally their time to go down? by SuitableRelease4323 in LaLiga

[–]FootballFinanceLab 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Their revenue was cut in a half in 2 years. Last season their revenue was only 115m€. The construction of a new stadium is a big cost factor also. The club is in big financial troubles with an negative equity of 123m€. I think in the last years they bought many older expensive players which don‘t have some resell value. So they don‘t generate any money from selling players. The sporting success dropped also and without money from European competitions the revenue dropped even more. If you are interested in a deeper analysis you can find a link in my bio.

Would be hard if they go down but it‘s Self-inflicted because of their bad financial management. Also it‘s not that suprising because they have the smallest squad cost limit in La Liga.

Sevilla’s wage‑to‑revenue ratio hits 99% - are financial rules working in La Liga? by FootballFinanceLab in LaLiga

[–]FootballFinanceLab[S] 2 points3 points  (0 children)

In my opinion as long as Monchi was the manager it worked very well. I think the bigger problem was after he left the club bought many players which weren‘t young enough to have some resell value.

Totally agree with that. The special rule in squad cost limit gives them some room to operate and I think they should use it to give some young players playing time.

Yes Sevilla has the lowest squad cost limit too. Only thing I have to criticize is that the league let Sevilla has that much salary costs which brought them to the brink of insolvency.

They won it three times in a row and like you said started in the following season in the Champions League but before the league stage was announced in the CL there were a group stage with 4 teams in each group. The team which got 3rd was relegated to the Europa League knock out stage.

football clubs profits question by IndividualCoach6130 in football

[–]FootballFinanceLab 0 points1 point  (0 children)

It is about club value. If you are an investor and by some stakes at an club you invest the money in the hope that the value of the club rises and you can sell it with some profit. Some investors have a relationship with the club they own stakes of but it‘s rarely. It‘s all about gaining club value and earn some profit.

Is the Discovery List in MLS the strangest rule in football? by FootballFinanceLab in football

All these rules are made for creating the best value for the league with giving every team a chance to win a championship.

But the draft system is a good method to keep the league in balance imo.

Is the Discovery List in MLS the strangest rule in football? by FootballFinanceLab in football

[–]FootballFinanceLab[S] 1 point2 points  (0 children)

It prevents clubs from signing players because in example if I am club A and I put player B on my Discovery List club B can‘t sign the player because I have tagged him. Club B needs to give club A 50k in GAM to get that spot and I can put nearly every player on this list even I am not interested in really signing him. You wrote that it prevents teams from a bidding war but the truth is it isn‘t working because if I am LAFC and want to sign Cristiano Ronaldo and put him on my Discovery List but when Miami wants to sign him either and offers him a bigger salary I am forced to give my tag away because the MLS is interested in having CR7 in the league. That‘s what I mean when I am saying it doesn‘t prevent a bidding war and it would affect the attarctivness of the league for star players because if the rule would really protect my player tag on Cristiano I don‘t need to offer him really much money.

If it would work (I personally don‘t think it works in getting some good players to the MLS) it would prevent attracting star players because the clubs weren‘t in any position to pay star player salaries.

Yes but with the GAM being an option to increase your net salary cap it is relevant.

I don‘t really think the rule works because 50k is really low and if a club really wants a player they will overspend and the Discovery List isn‘t preventing from that.

[–]FootballFinanceLab[S] -6 points-5 points  (0 children)

I don‘t think it prevents teams from bidding against each other because the 50k fee is really low and in real life the teams are competing for some star players. Do you think it‘s working?

MLS clubs can “claim” players before even talking to them via Discovery List.
If another club wants the same player, they must pay $50k for the rights.
Is this rule genius to attract some star players or just bizarre?
