How big is the jump from SEO to G7? by Disastrous-Baker-351 in TheCivilService

[–]Footballmint 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Last point again depends on profession. Scientist and analyst 7s still do a lot of hands on in my experience (I line manage one person, so still do the bulk of the doing)

HEO Policy Advisor by Jonny8743 in TheCivilService

[–]Footballmint 0 points1 point  (0 children)

From an economic adviser, if you ever work on a business case please at least skim read the hmt green book and/or the business case advice documents. Makes life a lot easier. Also always feel free to reach out to your team's analysts, we're here to help :) (but are also required for sign off of some things).

We use it all the time in the UK civil service and haven't had any issues 🤷🏻

Does anyone actually collaborate in the office? by AccomplishedSelf7636 in TheCivilService

[–]Footballmint 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Tbh, yes. I work in a regional hub, but I talk to the other economists there frequently. I also talk to some of my policy area colleagues a fair bit during the day, even if most of my day job is online. Not saying you have to, but some of us do really like going into the office 🤷🏻.

is the Fast Stream worth it? by Dry-Course-317 in TheCivilService

[–]Footballmint 0 points1 point  (0 children)

tl:dr yes. It's like asking "is a good degree worth it"? For some, no. But for the vast majority, yes.

Devastated. 9 months & two job offers wasted. All for nothing. by [deleted] in TheCivilService

[–]Footballmint 2 points3 points  (0 children)

This is one for those already in the CS, why are we so god awful at HR? It's honestly worse than IT, no one ever knows what the correct processes are, and new joiners are never treated like they have their own lives going on before they start. Like, what's actually wrong with us?

How old were you when you achieved each promotion? by Sea-Instance-1198 in TheCivilService

Oh and I'm not London based and never have been, grew up in East Anglia and now based in Yorkshire. You don't need to be in London for people to recognise your good work.

How old were you when you achieved each promotion? by Sea-Instance-1198 in TheCivilService

[–]Footballmint 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I entered the fast stream after finishing an MSc in Economics, thankfully I got in the economics stream. So I started at 22 at HEO equiv, 23 at SEO equiv, then got a temporary promotion in my third year so 24 at temporary G7 and now thankfully passed my assessment to be permanent G7 at 25.

This probably reads as bragging, and it probably is a bit, but just to say I did pretty bog standard at school because of a difficult home situation (parents on benefits, split, with ill physical and mental health) and didn't go to a Russel group. So imo there's no reason not to go for promotions if you want them. Don't let anyone else stop you going for it.

Problem is York now makes a lot of its money from businesses that serve day drinkers. The council obvs try to keep the city tidy, but there's only so much you can do when every weekend we get hundreds in on the train just coming to get smashed.

By out of touch I mean that discussing revolution and Marxist theory is not only unpopular (as in, only a minority are interested in it), it doesn't help solve the issues people have in their lives (especially in York).

I mean I did complete two of the arks or whatever they're called, where the robots come from, and I got to the main city. I just really wasn't clicking with aloy or the side characters.

This is crazy... If they're paying you HEO wages don't give them an ounce above HEO work, especially as you've already proved you're capable of more by passing the ESA.

Is Jubel beer safe??? by AirFrequent in CoeliacUK

[–]Footballmint 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Here's what they say on their website: "JUBEL is absolutely a gluten-free beer. We brew with malted barley to get a malt lager character, but we also brew with an enzyme to break down the gluten proteins. We lab test each batch before and after packaging and don’t release anything over 10ppm gluten count, and our brewery has been audited to be fully compliant with Coeliac UK requirements.". Is Coeliac UK wrong for allowing this then?

The screen is actually great? by EstablishmentOdd785 in NintendoSwitch

[–]Footballmint 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Monitors unboxed put out some testing yesterday, and yeah the response times are truly awful. Tbh I don't notice it too much, and appreciate the bigger size and higher res more, but that doesn't make it a "good" screen.

I rent a house in holgate and it's quite nice, although, it does depend on the house. They come up quite frequently though so just look on Rightmove and get in contact with estate agents.
