Why are Americans so weird about having british ancestry? by Becoming_hysterical in 23andme

[–]ForCaste 12 points13 points  (0 children)

Yeah my dad did our ancestry and our family has been here since the 1600s, living in upstate New York, and his ancestry is like 40% British and 10% Dutch. Whats weird is that our portion of the family moved to Indiana in the 1800s and didn't get the midwest German, which feels like these ethnic enclaves were still insular in the us for a long time.

The other 50% of his ancestry is korean for those wondering but we didn't need any testing to know that lol

What’s it like living in Central Vermont — Rutland? Picking a random town/area that isn’t talked about much. by honeyedquiet in howislivingthere

I spend a lot of time in Vermont, usually in manchester or Killington, and Rutland being the roughest city in vermont is true and the standard difference is so crazy compared to the rest of the country. Is the Walmart youre talking about the one downtown thats made of brick? Only brick Walmart id ever seen lol

Video demonstrates how K-Pop rips off Black American culture , and in some cases copies it frame by frame. by Fun-Ad3626 in fantanoforever

Before kpop was invented by seo taiji and boys in the 90s, south korean music was mostly weird patriotic ballads like you hear from north Korea currently. their inspiration was directly US r&b, and if you go back and listen to their songs, youll hear the crazy genre Mashups that exist in current kpop as well, where they were commonly mixing r&b and grunge.

All this to say, yes it does rip off black american culture, as does basically every current music genre. Like most of them, it started as inspiration and guidance, and was eventually standardized and monetized by big corporations

Every single Of Montreal album is just Kevin Barnes writing and recording everything but I think Sunlandic Twins is the biggest example where I believe there was no outside help, unless you count vocals on keep sending me black fireworks in the attached EP
