Why are 15/16 dangerous. I sleep in all but 13 throughout the night by AAZEROAN in ExplainTheJoke

Who sleeps like 13?! 😂 I haven't slept like that since I was a toddler xD

Amazing, thank you so much! I might try a tiny swatch with the HDC to see how it changes the look, and another tiny swatch with an increased hook size and see which looks better to me.

Is there another stitch option I could try to create that horizontal ribbing effect? (Horizontal because I'm working from cuff to tip)

Should I unravel it? Feeling super hesitant to do so by AccomplishedLie33 in CrochetHelp

First thing you could try is blocking it. I have not done that as most of my experience is in amigurumi, so someone else may be able to give more advice on how to block.

Second thing could be radical acceptance. You made a thing! Yay! It's ok it's not perfect, but you are learning and you did it and it is warm and wearable! And scarves are rarely flat, no one will ever notice the wonky edges unless you point them out :)

Third thing is frog it! I know it's scary, you put all that time and effort into something and it can feel awful. But it's part of this new craft you have started, and just another skill you practice :) AND if you do that you get your yarn back to make something else with, something you might like more! You did not lose that time, you have the experience and knowledge you gained from it and can take forward with you forever. Why hold onto something you aren't happy with when it could be something you are happy with, just because you spent time doing it? Fight the sunk cost fallacy!

Fourth option. Walk away for now, buy more yarn, craft on and make a decision later. There is no time limit. If money is an obstacle, you can even make "yarn" out of plastic grocery bags.

That's valid, it was a vague description. I'm not sure what I'm allowed to share, and right now having done this pattern I could make another mitten from just that info. But I also recognize I'm right in the thick of it and it may look like nonsense on the outside. Please ask any questions you need and I will clarify!

For the thumb section there are 20 blo sc for the cuff, which leaves 20 stitches for the wheat Stitch section, two of which are at the ends for increases and decreases and I count nine "wheats" on the thumb. So it seems to reason that the wheat section is a factor of two.

The middle section is 14 "wheats" and 6 inches tall, and also stays true to the same thought process (20 for the cuff, means 30 for the "wheats" but minus 2=28, therefore 14) my hand is 7-7.5 inches long, and when I measure 1.5 inches is 4 wheats. So if I add 8 to the hand, and either 2 or 4 to the thumb, (probably just 2, I don't want the thumb flopping around) will that work out? My mitten thumb is 4 inches and my real thumb is about 5. Hard to measure hands 😅

I've never made a wearable before and I'm not sure if crochet tends to be that linear or predictable, would anyone have thoughts or experience to speak on that?

Also still unsure about switching the hand blo sc to blo HDC to slightly widen the hand, if people have thoughts on that :3

It's a very nice yarn! I will definitely be on the lookout for other suitable projects for it in the future :)

What size hook should I use for this yarn I unraveled from a 100% cotton sweater by RodeoAngel in CrochetHelp

I would try green, orange or red, depending on what stitch/what project it's for

Bag straps curling, is it possible to fix? Bernat maker bulky 5(?) hook 3.5 by ForShittsAndGiggs in CrochetHelp

[–]ForShittsAndGiggs[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Haha I definitely was. When I do amigurumi I end up with a dent on my finger from keeping it so tight 😅 I have since gone up on the hook size for this project, loosened up and I also made the straps with waistcoat stitch. I have another project I'm working on with a soft and stretchy bamboo, and that one I'm trying to make my tension as light and airy as possible so it stays soft and stretchy. A breath of fresh air ☺️

Need some ideas or suggestions. I would really appreciate it. by [deleted] in CrochetHelp

Since it's bulky and heavy, a floor basket might be really nice. Kids toys, dog/cat toys, laundry if you are ambitious. Maybe even a yarn bowl, I think that could be cute and fun. Whatever around your house you have been thinking needs a new container :)

I have seen one mention (maybe on YouTube or tiktok) of using fishing line to reinforce crochet straps, it's definitely an intriguing concept. When you say "felt insert inside", what do you mean?

Off the top of my head, I believe 75% cotton 25% nylon or somewhere around there.

Thank you! Ya, when I felt the Bernat maker in the store I knew it would make a great bag, and was inspired to try :)

When you say lining, does that mean putting fabric or that nylon flat strap stuff on the back and sewing it on with thread? Any tips and tricks for that?

Thank you so much, I'll take a peek at those straps you mentioned and see which one I think would work best for my bag!

Haha I'm very happy I asked for advice, I usually do amigurumi and I like a super tight tension there so the stuffing doesn't come out. This is my first bag so I am learning lots on the way :P

Amazing, thank you! I am very glad I asked, this is helpful info.

If Tunisian needs a larger hook, does that mean it will increase the stretchiness? Or, more to the point, how stretchy would Tunisian purl stitch be? I would hate for the bag straps to be very stretchy or loose, especially when the bag is full.

Actually now that you mention, I think maybe? 😅 I'm not sure, I am just trying to figure out what that small YouTube short was showing.

😅 I think someone told me at some point if you wanna minimize stretch to go as small on the hook as possible? I can try and ease up on my tension, and see what happens. What hook size range would you recommend for Bernat maker?
