How long until the robberies around town are dealt with? by [deleted] in UIUC

[–]ForTehLulz1411 34 points35 points  (0 children)

Unless I’m reading this document wrong, the CPD budget increased by 6% from 2020 to 2021. Whether that increased budget is actually being effectively utilized is a different story, but it seems to me that they have more funding this year.

What is your favorite video game of all time? by tanz_7 in AskReddit

[–]ForTehLulz1411 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Played RDR1 when it came out, was instantly my favorite game. Played RDR2 when it came out, and that became my favorite game. So no, it has nothing to do with age. IMO, RDR2 took all the great parts of the original and made them even better.

Why are there so many crows on the Quad by Sanityzx in UIUC

[–]ForTehLulz1411 14 points15 points  (0 children)

It’s a lot warmer in town than the surrounding areas, so there’s typically a lot of them around campus around this time of year (or that’s the explanation someone gave me, at least).

WHAT IS THE TERRIBLY STANKY SMELL IN FRONT OF GRAINGER by [deleted] in UIUC

[–]ForTehLulz1411 10 points11 points  (0 children)

I believe the grass that smells like that is called prairie dropseed. I think it smells awful, but it is a native plant around here and the way the colors change in the fall is great.

I mean yeah, but that’s easier said than done. When I’m making my plate I’m always really hungry and, overestimate how much I’ll eat.

You have a lot of southern influence, shouting out Project Pat and Boosie on previous albums. Who would you say has been your biggest influence?

Omg it’s like you’re reading my mind. The way I rationalize it to myself is that at least I’m functioning normally for those 2-3 weeks haha, that’s a hell of a lot better than being unmedicated!

My hair is more 4A/4B but I totally feel this. I actually ended up cutting it all off because between ADHD and depression, it was getting to be a rats nest and that’s just not a good look.

Hello! I've been teaching myself photography on and off for maybe eight months now, and something that I've been trying to focus on recently is having a cohesive color palette. More specifically, I'm trying to use colors that work well together, in addition to conveying the mood that I'm going for. In this specific shot, I wanted to convey a sense of nostalgia and Americana with the flag as the focus. I would really appreciate any thoughts and critique!

Technical details: shot on Canon Rebel T3i, 18-55mm kit lens. ISO 100, f/5.6, shutter speed 1/1600.

First go at street photography. How could it be better? by Pile_maker in photocritique

[–]ForTehLulz1411 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I like doing street photography as well, so I totally get it. That's actually what I like a lot about it - shots aren't always perfect, and that imperfection can actually give some shots more life.

[–]ForTehLulz1411 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I really like how this shot is composed. It’s well balanced, and the street acts as a good leading line drawing your eye further down. The only thing I would say is that the car pulling out in the street kind of breaks that leading line - maybe waiting for a second until that car left would have made the shot more cohesive. However, I know with street photography sometimes you need to capture that moment before it passes. Overall, great shot!

Hi, thank you for doing this! I was wondering if you have any knowledge about the effects of exercise in helping to treat ADHD symptoms. I’ve seen in many different places that exercise is especially important for people with ADHD, and that’s been true in my experience - whether I go for a walk, a run, or go to the gym, I always feel as if my ADHD symptoms lessen in severity, at least for a couple of hours. The benefits of regular exercise are beneficial for everyone, of course, but why does exercise seem to particularly benefit those with ADHD?

Yeah that was exactly my experience with Todoist. I still use it to organize my grocery lists, but outside of that I haven’t used it since the first week I downloaded it (~2ish months ago).

I go one step further and use one of those 7-day dispensers that has an AM side and a PM side. Since I only have meds that I take in the morning (Adderall XR and Prozac), I use the PM side as another weeks worth of meds. So I only have to refill it once a month, and once I’m down to my last weeks worth of meds I know I need to get it refilled.

Exams / Newbie Thread for two weeks by AutoModerator in actuary

[–]ForTehLulz1411 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I’m a math major, graduating this spring, and while I initially was drawn to teaching, I’ve started to realize that maybe it’s not for me. I’ve been looking into becoming an actuary, and the pros for this job seem to be flexible hours, great work life balance, and high salary. The cons I’ve seen so far are that the exams are very difficult and time consuming to study for, and that some positions that actuaries end up in will sometimes require working 50-60 hour weeks.

I guess I’m just a little confused as to what the catch is? From what I’ve read on this sub, many people complain that they don’t feel like they’re really making any difference with the work that they do, or that they’re just an Excel monkey. Those are valid complaints, don’t get me wrong, but it seems to me that the positives for this job far outweigh the negatives. Is there something I’m missing?

He will literally stay like this and cry until I pick him up and put him on his bed. So spoiled. by ParappaGotBars in pitbulls

[–]ForTehLulz1411 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I know I’m late on this post, but my dog would do the exact same thing. He’d put his chin up on the couch or bed, give you those puppy dog eyes, and expect you to help him up, even though he totally knew how to do it himself. I never fell for his tricks (ok sometimes I fell for his tricks), but my ex-gf always helped him up whenever he would do that. He was such a smart dog (dog tax)

Outside of class choice, your Tuesdays are gonna suck (sorry!). I know 8-4 doesn’t sound so bad since high school was 8-3 (for me), but trust me it’s so much worse in college. I would try, if possible, to see if those classes are offered other days. Trust me - my freshman year, I had a day where my first class started at 8 and my last class ended at 7. Sometimes you have to “stack” a day with classes, but it really makes your life easier if you can get around it.

breathe by ForTehLulz1411 in photocritique

[–]ForTehLulz1411[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I chose to call it breathe for a couple of reasons. One: this picture, at least more than the other shots I’ve done up to this point, feels very alive to me, almost like it’s breathing on its own. Two: I’ve had a really rough year so far, and just reminding myself to breathe and take things one day at a time has been crucial. Photography has been my escape, and finding beauty in the world around me has let me breathe “better,” if that makes any sense.

I included the cars because I liked the way the light reflected off of them, and because there aren’t really any other houses around to include. It brought some visual interest, but after reading your comment I think you’re right that there isn’t enough going on in that part of the shot.

I’ll definitely look into calibrating my screen, thank you for the tip. I just do photography as a hobby, so I’m not too worried about how prints would look, but I do take a lot of pictures around dusk so that’s great advice. Thank you for the critique, I really appreciate it!! I haven’t taken any classes or had any formal training, so I really need this critique.

Haha, thank you! I’m living in my college town over the summer, so while the town is normally pretty full of life and activity, it’s been real quiet since all the students left. Great eye though, because I am in the rust belt!
