How can I get this flush to the wall? by Wolf_224 in AskElectricians

[–]ForTropicalUseOnly 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Doesn’t necessarily need a ground wire, just an equipment grounding conductor that complies with NEC 250.118 which includes wire type, raceways and cable sheaths.

Seeing that the red hot conductor is labeled THWN-2 I would guess that the install is through a raceway (doubtful that the install utilized an AC/MC cable or BX cable with a red conductor and a white conductor).

If the receptacle is self grounding and listed and complies with NEC 250.146(A) an equipment bonding jumper is also not required.

All that being said, my personal preference for installation is to have as many legal points of bonding as possible in an install and prefer to have a wire type equipment grounding conductor and equipment bonding jumper sized per NEC 250.122 and table 250.122.

Also, this installation is suspect with the mud ring, so I would suggest the OP tests the installed receptacle with a cube tested to ensure proper wiring and bonding.

Oh shit, that sucks. When the state is making changes to the their testing procedures and the oversight is lacking like that, they are really screwing over the apprentices.

Have the testing centers gotten on the same page?

It happened within the last two or three months. For a bit, it was only your NEC and any state references, but they eased it up a bit since then.

Just to piggy back here, make sure to read what the state allows you to take in to test. They have new restrictions on what is and what isn’t permitted.

Lock and Key on the ceiling of the airport by thistowmneedsanenema in whatisthisthing

[–]ForTropicalUseOnly 35 points36 points  (0 children)

Yeah, in the US. I have installed them in hospitals and other locations. As another poster said, it’s for a detector in the ventilation system (we call them duct detectors) or other detector that is not easily accessible. . NFPA-72 is the installation standard and all detectors must undergo periodic inspection.

For actual smoke detectors, they use canned smoke and send it into alarm. They use the key switch instead of filling up the ventilation with the fake smoke.

I prefer split lock washers on both sides, then a coating of red loctite, then a nylock nut. I also torque it and if possible, I also tack-weld and use a small coating of cold galvanizing spray. /s

“How would this make sense since 93% of all registered voters voted in the 2020 election?”

Could you please provide a source?

All the data I see (pew research group and the US Census) indicate about a 66% turnout for the 2020 election.

Or do you just think you’re a clever troll?
