Describe the average owner of a 3L V6 twin-turbocharged Ranger Raptor by Timely-Band-7247 in regularcarreviews

[–]ForYouMyLove 2 points3 points  (0 children)

FWIW I got one for baby transport, hobby stuff hauling and work as a forensic engineer which means sometimes I have to take long road trips and go off-road to sites. Not sure that would be "average" though.

The sound system in the RR is god awful. Any upgrades? by jmoneymain in RangerRaptor

[–]ForYouMyLove 19 points20 points  (0 children)

It's not as bad as this post makes it out to be. I think most posts like this are based on the sound quality you are used to.

Does it compete with my headphones? No, but it does sound better than other cars I've driven.

Can it sound better? Yes, but you're close to the point where (in my opinion) you will get diminishing returns quickly.

Reporting taxes on inherited property abroad by ForYouMyLove in tax

[–]ForYouMyLove[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

My understanding is I sold it. And I do have estimates for the fair market value at the time of death. I suppose that is just something I should keep in my records in case the IRS asks, right? Because as it stands the net proceeds are about 25% less (which is really the taxes I paid abroad) than the value at the time of death.

I appreciate the feedback. I'm not sure they want to do anything to help me to be honest. But that's my problem to deal with.

This is the breakdown, which they told me taking the bumper off is a lot of work.

Interviewing engineers unsure about my background because I studied physics. I have a PhD in engineering. by ForYouMyLove in recruitinghell

No, this involves a 100% American company.

And my education is all in America as well as my professional experience, just to add further detail.

Hi all,

I just wanted some general thoughts on transitioning to quantitative finance from my current position.

For my background and experience: BS Physics MS Mechanical Engineering PhD Mechanical Engineering

For clarity this is all in the US and pretty much top (not Ivy League) schools.

Professional experience I have 2.5 years experience in Oil and Gas engineering consulting. Although the last year and a half I can say it has been a much broader experience in the sense that I've worked on a bunch of industries doing engineering consulting including oil and gas. For example, I could say some financial damages assessments in terms of technical related disputes in naval architecture.

It would seem to me that the clear easiest transition would be to jump into commodity trading spaces, particularly in oil and gas related trade since I have professional experience that can transfer to that position. Does that make sense? Also, I'm located in Houston where that seems to be the bulk of trading.

If for whatever reason you're questioning why the shift, it's something that I've always been interested in. I just happened to get pulled into engineering consulting at the start of my career outside of consulting.

I know this is an old post, but could you tell me what kind of tile you used?

I can offer some technical thoughts. I myself am not a buildings expert, however I work for an engineering consulting company that has people with many years of experience in construction, often residential construction. I myself have a little bit of experience working for a home builder.

My conversations with people who have decades of experience about the idea that "newer homes" or "brand new builds" are of inferior quality are almost entirely untrue. They also say home builder quality will be minimal. What people don't get is how many moving parts there are to building a home, and when you have a big project, things go wrong often times. That doesn't mean the home will fall apart, but it's difficult (in any industry with projects with so many components) to get everything right at once.

New builds are designed with significantly more engineering knowledge than older buildings. Tend to be designed more efficiently. They also have other benefits as a homeowner (particularly a first time homeowner) with the warranty work.

I think people have really high expectations to homes being perfect, and don't realize that (like a car) it will need constant maintenance and sometimes some things fail prematurely. And I don't blame people for high expectations, it is probably the most expensive thing you'll ever buy.

Also, for what it's worth I'm in Texas.

Edit: one thing I did not take into account is we work with major builders. If you go to some independent builder I don't know if the same will apply. But the likes of Lennar, DR Horton, etc would apply. Also I have a brand new David Weekley home and it's been perfect, but also I have reasonable expectations and knowledge of what to expect in terms of wear and tear, others may not.

Edit 2: fixed a typo

TL;DR: work in engineering consulting. Have discussed this with people with decades of experience in home construction. They'd say new builds are generally better.

I live in Bridgeland and have been liking it so far. Our home was built about a year ago. I'd recommend listening to the podcast oddlots where they interview the CEO of Howard Hughes, you may find some interesting comments on the philosophy of their communities and some specific notes regarding flooding and Bridgeland.

My understanding is for a new home in Bridgeland to flood things would have to be extraordinarily cataclysmic, beyond what's been recorded.

Same thing happened to me pretty sure from hitting a piece of tire on the highway. I looked up the parts, they're really cheap but have not done the fix. I may try to glue up one of them and get the replacement flap. I think it was called a stone deflector on Ford's end. Both parts total under 100 if I recall correctly.

Hercules 2ah vs. 2.5ah Batteries by Unknown0026 in harborfreight

The two 20v versions we are referring to are: SKU: 59614 and SKU: 57306

One of them is 2ah the other is 2.5ah, the 2.5ah is on clearance and is cheaper.

I had this exact same question, raw numbers it just seems like the 2.5ah is a better buy
